    win2k has lower system requirements. which he probably is running with since he's still using 98.

    i sure as hell dont trust the so called security center of sp2, and wont certainly trust this so called anti spyware tool either. its gonna be a nice target for hackers if u ask me, making it infect instead of clean or something like that prolly.

    Well, I'm glad MS is trying to at least fix their mistakes, but it's kinda like plugging a tire that they know is faulty (like someone said above) <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I did a fresh install of XP, installed Firefox, antivirus and never touched IE for 6 months. I finally stumbled upon a page that wouldn't work in Firefox, so I loaded IE to use it, and low-and-behold popup's and such.

    So I downloaded adaware, scanned and it found 2 things, which it removed. Now, if I hadn't of used IE, would they even be there? Who knows, either way, 2 over 6 months = no problem <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    On a totally side note, we got a PC at work a few days ago that on the first pass, adaware picked up 50040 infected files, win!

    Dude, it works. It's not a question of whether or not you trust it, but of the spyware it can catch. And it catches them, man. It catches them <b>good</b>.

    No, I guess Mons means the 'we' literally:

    <b>Steve Balmer:</b> Very good, so, once we both sign this document, GIANT's acquisition will be completed. We'll transfer the rest of the sum to your accounts within the hour.
    <b>GIANT CEO:</b> (<i>Slightly strained voice.</i>) Finally! I can't believe it took so long!
    <b>Steve Balmer:</b> (<i>Signing the paper, then relaxing.</i>) Yeah, the formalities are certainly a drag, aren't they?
    <b>GIANT CEO:</b> (<i>Signing himself.</i>) Incredibly.
    <b>Steve Balmer:</b> (<i>Rises.</i>) OK, now that this is settled, I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised about your negotiation performance - given the situation.
    <b>GIANT CEO:</b> Thanks, Mr. Balmer. They weren't a spot on yours, though, Mr. Balmer.
    <b>Steve Balmer:</b> (<i>Glancing at his watch.</i>) Well, time's money. I'll see myself out, shall I?
    <b>GIANT CEO:</b> As you will, Mr. Balmer!
    <b>Steve Balmer:</b> (<i>From the door.</i>) Oh, Ned, I think you can take the knife off our new partner's throat now, wouldn't you agree?
    <b>MonsE:</b> Yes, sir!
    (<i>Balmer and Mons leave the room, the CEO collapses into his chair.</i>)

    BTW, heya Mons, nice to see you <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Oh, sorry to confuse: my desktop runs Windows 2000 (I have <b>no</b> plans to switch to XP), and my laptop runs Windows 98. I installed the GIANT version of the program on my desktop, but didn't have it available for my laptop. That's why I used the Microsoft version of the program on my laptop.

    Anyway monse, what brings you back to these stomping grounds?

    What do you do working for MS?

    Not sure what wen't on today, i connected to my pc using <a href='http://www.tightvnc.com' target='_blank'>Tight VNC</a> remote desktop from uni and the MS Spyware thing wen't crazy. Started using 100% processing power and it kept spawning more versions of it's self. Eventually i had the Ctrl+Alt+Del them all to make my pc work right.

    Firstly: MONSE POSTING??!?!?!

    <img src='http://bob.thezazi.net/explode.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    Secondly: I'll try this out at the PC shop I work in. Really badly spyware infected computers can be a huge pain. Adaware, spybot, HijackThis, and sysinternals tools (specifically Autoruns and Process Explorer) usually get rid of all but the worst. But on those idiots that have to click every flashing link they see and bring their computer in re-infected every month, it never hurts to have something else in the toolbelt. And I've always gotten good results out of MS's memory scan.

    hrm, in teh straight up spy bot versus this scan spybot found 7 processes while ms found one. Neither found a process on the others list. its like adaware all over again.
    i guess ill start running it and see if the rate i pick up bots goes down.

    oh and spybot has a always on client now too just as a for the record.

    The OT banter, I missed it so...

    To answer AF's question, I've been supporting the Directory Service product. So... : ADMT, trusts, PKI, Kerberos, NTLM, DNS, WINS, security configuration, auditing, time synch, group policy, GPMC, application deployment, profiles, client-side caching, Terminal Server, Terminal Server Licensing, directory services, LDAP, FSMO, Global Catalog, DCPROMO, LSASS, FRS, DFS, Schema Management, AD Jet databases, authoritative restores, KCC, replication, Sites, FSMT, file migration, and a wide variety of MS internal and external tools.
