okay. first of all, Reza probably will not survive the onos. It is gd action and drama. But do u really hate reza that much that u want him to die so early?

I don't hate him,but the fade lifting his head up and sniffing kinda appeared as if he knew something was comeing.Whats something a Fade has problems with?An onos maybe onii again

To be quite frank, it looked more like the fade was called back to the hive (someone like a comm giving a marine an order and the marine reluctantly goes back) Bet you 2c if the hive was under attack, that Jack it.

Anyways, if it was an onos, then why would the fade be afraid/run away? All the Kharra are on the same side (unless you've read ahead in the old version and know something i dont)

4e) The Forgotten Memories

Back at the room, Jack was trying to pick lock open a personal locker. The other three lockers remained stubborn and refused to open, and he had given up on them.

Mike stood on guard with his LMG. He couldn’t afford to be careless, the open vent and door were potential chances for the Kharaa to strike. Reza had left entrusted the task of protecting Sophie and Burt to him. Sophie was still unconscious, and Burt was barely awake. The pain prevented him from moving much, and he simply lay on the bed, bored and tired.

It had already been more than ten minutes, but Reza was still nowhere to be seen.

Mike remembered Reza’s instructions : If I do not return in half an hour, go on without me.

He knew deep down what Reza had really meant. In truth, Reza was saying to him that he might have been attacked and killed by the Kharaa. After all, the risk was too great. As mighty a marine Reza might be, he wouldn’t have stood much chance if multiple Kharaa were attacking him. Worst still, there was no guarantee that there were supplies to be found. Even so, Mike trusted Reza.

“Jack, will you stop trying to open the damn lockers and guard the vent?!” Mike said angrily.
“A sec, Mike. Just give me a second.” Jack replied.
“A second? It takes just a second for a Skulk to come through, or for a Lerk to enter through the vent!” Mike retorted.
“Just a moment Mike! I am pretty sure this locker’s gonna come open!” Jack said excitedly.
Mike shook his head. “Listen…Jack. These lockers, they use a keycard. Not the old fashioned kind of key from eons ago. You need a correct keycard!”

Jack ignored Mike, and continued to work on the locker.

“Oh man…by the time you open the locker…I ‘d be long dead…” Burt muttered and laughed weakly.
“When did you start to talk?” Jack asked. He had hardly heard Burt chat with them.
“Wise men talk less.” Burt replied, and closed his eyes.

Mike gritted his teeth in frustration. He didn’t know how long Burt or Sophie would last under this condition. He only prayed now, that the other Kharaa would still not be aware of their presence, and that Reza would quickly get back.

“There! There! It’s open! See Mike? See?!” Jack said happily as he pointed at the locker door, which contained a long dented piece of plastic in its keycard slot.
“How…” Mike begun.
Jack grinned. “I wrecked the digital verification computer inside. It opens automatically when that happens.”

Hurrily, Jack flipped the locker door open. Inside contained photos, a diary, a novel ‘Behemoth Side Story : Nightmare’, some money, letters, useless junk, and – painkillers!

“Painkillers! Mike! You hear me?” Jack yelled.
“Quiet! You…” Mike whispered angrily. “You forgot there are hundreds of Kharaa here with us?”
“Oh…erm, sorry then.” Jack apologised, as he suddenly remembered that fact.
“For the first time Jack, you actually did something really useful for us.” Mike praised him.
“I always do, anyway, thanks.” Jack said happily.
“Apply some to Sophie, and Burt as well. Leave one for me.” Mike said.
“There are only two small bottles here.” Jack declared.
“Well then, I don’t need any.” Mike replied.
“He don’t. I DO.” Burt had woke up again.

As Jack pulled off the lid of a bottle and passed it to Burt, he couldn’t help but frown as if in deep thoughts.

“You alright mate?” Burt asked as he shook the bottle.
“Yeah…” Jack replied. “Just that I have a bad feeling about this.”
“Something bad?” Mike asked.
“Yeah……I have a bad feeling about this. Sure makes me wonder how’s Reza” Jack said.
Mike glanced down sadly, but he said, “He will be fine.”
“Wow, whoever this diary belongs to sure had a lot of time. He kept this diary in the locker and locked it, even when near death.” Jack said.
“How did you know that?” Mike asked suspiciously.
Jack stared at the diary. “Well…the diary has bloodstains on it, and so do the locker. So all that was purely my guess.”
“What’s this?” Jack asked as he held the diary up. “The Life Of Struk McKellen? That’s a pretty funky name for a diary. And there’s still a golden pen inside too!”

Burt was stunned when he heard the name being mentioned. It was the same name as his best friend, Struk, whom he lost contact with. Struk was one of the many doomed marines who went on The Behemoth.

“Pass me the diary! Now! And the pen as well!” Burt said nervously.

Burt was dumbfounded when he examined the diary and pen. He could clearly remember the golden pen which was a gift he had given to Struk.

“Jesus.” Burt muttered, almost unbelieving of what he saw in front of him.

The diary was stained with dried blood; and the bloody fingerprint marks. The handwriting was clearly that of Struk. Burt’s hand trembled with excitement and fear as he slowly held up the dairy. Flipping the pages, he gasped with astonishment as he read the last few pages. It was the final recount of the days that followed after Burt's last transmission with Struk.

Day 893 - The satellite and communications system scrambled, something has gone terribly wrong. I was having a fine chat with Burt when the transmission went screwy. Pete said it was Earth's communication problem that went wrong, I highly suspect so. Pete, being the communications officer in charge appeared to be hiding something from me. Perhaps my prediction is right, perhaps something terrible will happen today.

Day 894 - I still didn't get to see Major Utiza! Everyone's gone dark.......silent........I think something's wrong.

Day 895 - Obviously this is more than just communications breakdown, some marines were reported to have been killed by......God knows what.

Day 896 - We have been called to stay back on BH, no one's allowed to leave their bunks?! Screw that order, and whoever gave it.

Day 897 - What the hell is going on here?! Everyone's keeping his or her mouth shut! Traz, Ixa, Weoling, Kanalies and Jona all are ignorant about everything......so am I.

Day 898 - I caught Pete before he got away, and it took a combined effort of the sixteen of us before we squeezed the truth out of Pete, there appears to be a Kharaa infiltration on BH. It’s kinda understandable as BH is so big, it takes days to get from one end to another! It appears that the Kharaa were what's been attacking our communications system. Pete cannot confirm with me if there is indeed Kharaa infestation and he said he doesn't know anything else. If I find out he’s still keeping something from us, I will personally kill him.

Day 899 - I can't seem to contact anyone else from the other side, something seems to be going on there, and I am gonna find out what it is.

Day 900 - Three power failures in a row! What the hell is happening to BH?!

Day 901 - Nothing much happened today, everyone’s quiet and in low spirits. Maybe there is indeed Kharaa infiltration. Seug Min volunteered to take a trip to the other part of BH to check out what's going on.

Day 902 - I am trying to contact ANYONE at the other side!

Day 903 - Trying...trying...trying...

Day 904 - Full alert. A Kharaa attack has been confirmed. As I was lying on my bed today, I saw a Skulk in the vent above, luckily, I had my LMG with me so I shot the crap out of the bloody creature. I haven't seen Seug Min since several days ago......I have a bad feeling about this........

Day 905 - Still no signs of him, also, many others were sent to the frontline to deal with the Kharaa. I hope for the best.

Day 906 - Only Ixa returned! He said the others all died! How could that be?! Didn't they have the support of a field commander?

Day 907 - The medpacks never came. Ixa died from his injuries, I blasted the brains out of an invading Lerk today but one of its spikes went into my shoulder! Cursed creature! Now I am gonna have to see the medic! But just where is the medpack?!

Day 908 - There is a rumour, a dark and sick rumour that some of our higher-ups are hogging the medpacks for themselves. There is supposedly an area where a hoard of the precious nano medpacks are kept. The selfish bastards are keeping it all for themselves, leaving none for us! I will kill them if I find them, no matter how high their rank is!

Day 909 - I am feeling hopeless......Seug Min never returned. I guess he died. Of so many of my friends, only Lyax survived. She has suggested to me that we hide from the others but I do not know how useful is this......

Day 910 - Why did I come to BH? I regret with every moment of my life coming to BH. More than half of the crew has died. Perhaps I will be the next......

Day 911 - I have been sent to the frontline to fight with the Kharaa today, and my record goes to a total of seven aliens. For the first time for a long time, I was in high spirits. I 've been told someone managed to contact Earth, help is on the way.

Day 912 - These marines are crazy! All of them! They will fight without the help of a field commander?! Wait! Where is that med pack or ammo pack?! WHERE?!

Day 913 - Death and destruction surround me. The Kharaas are too smart to be killed, these cursed spaceship, and its damn vents suit them well...too well.

Day 914 - Earth has not sent help yet, we are doomed. More than 75% of BH officially belongs to the Kharaa. Maybe we should activate the self-destruct sequence to take down all the Kharaa with us...........

Day 915 - It is hopeless……………

Day 916 – I now wish only to see my family and my friends before I die. Goodbye dad, mom, bro, Burt, Lass and Junior.

Day 917 - My end is near. The Kharaas are breaking through the door, I do not know what's my future holds other than death. As much as I want, I would had wanted to say goodbye to everyone personally. I shall lock up this diary now, and god pray that it shall never be sullen or fouled by the Kharaa.

The rest of the pages were empty. Burt sobbed quietly and gently placed back the diary, Struk must had died. For many months, he had wondered what happened to Struk, now the truth was clear.

“Burt.” Jack began. “You okay?”
“Leave him alone Jack. In times like these, let the person cry to his heart’s content.” Mike said.

Mike glanced at his watch again. It was nearly twenty minutes now. He made a mental note that he would wait for another twenty minutes, ten minutes past Reza’ limitation, then rouse everyone on.

In times like these, he had to –

Reza suddenly strolled through the door, dragging a cable and lots of guns behind him.

“Yo. You guys waited long?” Reza asked with a grin.

i think the atmosphere for this one is abit better. i like how u inserted humour into the stiry, mainly at the part where Mike and Burt talked. and yet another cameo appearence of your story. tot it was funny. one thing tho, the dairy, i felt it was a little realistic. i know the BH was big but how come they didnt even know about kharaa infestation until very late. and when they did find out, it seems that the marines did not band together to kill the kharaa. which is stupid.

and FINALLY, Jack is useful.

idk siege cannpns would be nice but a little bit of over kill.
i say stick with weapons that the marines can carry, maybe if they found one deployed then it might work but otherwise i say no siege

As to the Fade's disappearance, I think that there's some marine in the Behemoth who happened to hit a hive or something.

*We fade back to see bob on his trip to the hive.Luckly all the gorges,at the time, were too drunk from health spray to respond to the "your building is under attack" message and many skulks, fades, onos',and lerks were too far away to hear it.*

4e) Rest & Rations

“Reza!” Mike said loudly and did a salute.

Burt smiled, he had expected to see Reza return.

“You are back!” Jack cried. “With guns and supplies too!”
“Good to see you again guys, Sophie and Burt still alright?” Reza smiled, but he did not return the salute.
“Right…” Burt murmured weakly. “Our med packs?”
“Here, plenty of them. I ‘ve got us some big guns too. Three HMGs and two shotguns with spare ammo. There are also MRE biscuits and water with me.” Reza declared as he handed the items around. “First is you Burt. Lie down, I will do the rest.”

Reza activated a med pack and immediately, it begun releasing micro nano-machines into the air, which Burt inhaled through his mouth and nose. Once in his body, the nano-machines went to work, repairing Burt's damaged cells, fixing his raptured blood vessels, replacing his lost blood. The nanos flooded his system, replacing lost body fluid, patching up his shattered ribs and forming healthy calcium. At last, they finally ran out of energy and faded into Burt's blood stream as nutrients for him to absorb.

Minutes later, Burt was healed almost completely, his energy was restored and his body functioning like usual again, he stood up and stretched his arms as if nothing had happened earlier. He patted his chest heartily; the pain was completely gone. The med pack had done well in repairing his broken ribs.

“Amazing…” Jack exclaimed. “It worked so fast…”
Reza narrowed his eyebrows. “This is what’s been keeping our forces alive for so long. God bless the man who invented the med pack.”
“May I…have one too?” Jack asked.
“No. The next one is for Sophie.” Reza said simply.

It was Sophie’s turn, and as she lay unconscious on the bed, Reza activated the med pack beside her face. The nanos automatically entered her body, and did the same task of healing her. Regardless of the type of wound, the med pack fixed her up as effectively as it did for Burt and replaced her lost blood.

Sophie woke up abruptly and glanced at everyone with surprised and sleepy eyes like a girl who woke up from a long sleep.

“What happened?” She asked.
“You lost too much blood and fainted.” Mike explained. “So Reza got some med packs and healed you. Look at your hand.”

Sophie stared at her right hand. The skin surface was smooth and flawless. The wound from before was completely gone, not even the slightest scar remained, it was as if she never was hurt at all.

“Thank you, Reza!” Sophie said loudly as she stood up and did a salute.
“You are welcome, and don’t bother with the salute.” Reza said gently with a grin.

Reza held the last med pack with uncertainty for a while, and finally he looked at Mike.

“Your turn.” Reza said.
“But Reza,” Mike protested. “Your face…”
“Oh, don’t worry about that, I will be fine. Your shoulder needs to be patched up.” Reza said while scratching dried blood off his face.
“My shoulder’s already healed. You need that med pack more than I do.” Mike argued.

Mike flexed his shoulder and flinched; the pain was getting more intense than before.

“See?” Reza pointed out. “Go ahead and use it.”

Mike nodded his head reluctantly. Reza activated the med pack, and Mike breathed in the nanos. They entered his blood stream and begun to repair his injured shoulder, patching up the damaged tissues and torn muscles, as well as supplying calcium into his bones. A minute later, Mike stretched and rubbed his shoulder; it felt much better than before. Reza secretly thanked the inventor of the med pack, without it, countless marines would have died, and a lot of money and resource would have been wasted. His knuckle had now begun to hurt, and had swollen up, but he had no intention of letting his marines know.

“By the way Reza, how did you get that scratch in the first place?” Jack asked.
“From a Fade.” Reza said simply.
“A Fade? You encountered one of those and survived? You killed it?” Sophie asked unbelievably.
“Actually I didn’t. I almost got killed by it,” Reza lowered his head as if in deep thoughts. “But it spared me, even though it had a chance to kill me.”
“It spared you? What do you mean?” Jack asked.
“I don’t really know…it stopped attacking suddenly and just blinked away.” Reza answered.
“Well, maybe it thought you were too much of a challenge?” Jack suggested.
Reza shook his head. “Unlikely. It had a clear chance of winning.”
“What if it was called back? Other Kharaa may have asked it to get to other areas for certain reasons.” Mike said.
Reza nodded his head thoughtfully. “Telepathy perhaps.”

While man have advanced in technology, and their means of communication have progressed to a point where people could talk across planets, there was still an ability which they hope for but can never attain – Telepathy. The Kharaa have this ability, and it is telepathy that makes them so efficient and deadly. While they can make sign languages or communicate vocally using grunts, snarls, hisses or a wide variety of other noises, the one communicating ability all Kharaa share in common regardless of species is telepathy.

This is another one of the mysterious aspect of the Kharaa. Scientists only managed to find out about this amazing ability through several rare captured Skulks. The Skulks were originally placed individually in several armored cells for study, and were constantly monitored by hidden cameras. However, the Skulks were observed to move in a same pattern, and even attacked the hidden cameras all in exactly same time. Scientists were then puzzled and surprised by this remarkable behavior, as the Skulks emitted the same kind of noises, and moved the same way in the same time. The cells were soundproof, and located too far away from one another for the Skulks to have communicated using means of vocal or sight. As scientists observed thermal images scans of the cells however, it was realized that before the Skulks made the same kind of movement, there was a heightened heat spike in their brains. This was the first discovery of the Kharaa’s ability to communicate with telepathy. Multiple encounters with them in the battlefield further provided evidences of telepathy between the various forms of Kharaa. Ultimately though, before any more information could be extracted, the captured Skulks killed themselves by smashing their heads repeatedly into the walls – all at the exact same time as well.

At last, everyone’s energy was refilled, they drank a bottle of water each and ate as much MREs as they could consume. They carried a bottle of water and a packet of MRE biscuit each. Meanwhile, as everyone were reading and memorizing the map, Reza distributed the guns and respective ammo around. He, Burt and Jack handled the HMGs, while Sophie and Mike used the shotguns. Everyone however, kept their pistols and left their LMGs behind.

“Jack.” Reza instructed as he passed a HMG to an eager Jack. “This is a Heavy Machine Gun, a weapon far more powerful and dangerous than your old LMG. Use it well.”
Jack nodded his head in acknowledgement. “Yes Reza.”
“You guys ready to kick some Kharaa arse? We are going to the lift right now!” Reza asked loudly.

Everyone there nodded. Reza smiled as he led the way, his HMG raised proudly.

“Sophie.” Jack asked suddenly.
Sophie turned her head to face him. “Yes?”
“You still alright?” He asked concernedly.
Sophie smiled. “Yeah, I 'm fine, thanks”
“About the injury on your hand......” Jack said.
“This?” Sophie raised her hand. “Oh well, thanks to the med pack, I won't have an ugly scar over my hand.”
Jack lowered his head. “About what happened just now……I am sorry”
“Sorry? What are you talking about?” Sophie asked, genuinely confused.
“No….I mean lying to you and Mike, I truly is…..” Jack stammered.
“It’s alright Jack. That no longer matters now.” Sophie said as she smiled gently.
“Thanks. Are you scared at all?” Jack asked.
Sophie narrowed her eyes. “Scared? Why should I be scared?”
“Good for you.......” Jack said softly.
“Are you scared of something?” Sophie questioned eagerly.
“Only one thing, the giant Onos – Onii.” Jack replied.
Sophie lowered her head. “So am I........”
“Sophie, do not worry.” Jack assured her. “Because I – We are with you.”
“I know, from now on, we will all have to stick together and – ” Jack said.

“Heads up!” Reza alerted everyone.

They were coming around to a corner. Sloshing sounds could be heard, along with a constant bubbling noise. Reza held a finger to his lip in a keep-quiet signal, he then did a wait-here signal with his palm and cautiously took a quick peek from his position.

“Oh crap!” Reza uttered under his breath in frustration.

Under the dim light, from almost twenty metres away, Reza could vaguely make out the shape of a fat Gorge, a towering Resource Chamber and a deadly Offensive Chamber.

WOOT OC's are making a entrance finally.
i was always under the impression that med packs were "plugged" into the marine, like the jetpacks and heavy armor.

the story is really advancing well and minus a few gramatical errors its pretty frickin AWESOME

LOL, I bet Reza is regretting not taking those Nade Launchers. Although having the right weapon for each situation would kill the story and suspense.

I hope their able to set up a base. Then we can have a ns_Seige007 situation with all the lead flying everywhere!

In-game, all it takes is left and right strafing and constant firing to kill an OC, but I see the trend of "deadly" OCs in fanfics. I like it though; it adds an obstacle.

finally, some OCs and structures. Nice work anywayz, as usual. i cant find any fault with this one. Good work portraying Mike and Reza as selfless characters. makes me respect them more. i also feel something going on between jack and sophie.

i do not want them to set up siege turrets, i view them as the cheap way to end the game and is alway's used by commanders who are not up for a challenge of taking a hive down manually, personnally ill take a Jp and knifes any day of the week for a hive take down

dont give them any JP or HA. too easy means not intereting. fighting against tough aliens would make the story more interesting

btw, where did the onii go?

That's the whole point. We don't know where he is.He could be that gorge.Maybe he morphed back into a gorge ------

dont u just hate that when ur a onos on a CO map and are saving ur res for like focus or something and then u have to go gorge cause the uber 1337 marines have taken ur hive down to five % health and ur team is to nub to have their own res so u have to de-evolve to gorge to save their behinds. not ot mention i thought that this thing was like super onos, what if it cant evolve

Sorry guys, no new chapters for now. My comp crashed, all my chapters r gone. Still trying hard to get 'em back...

Where did the Onii go? He's gone looking for prey. Afterall, he's too big to take standard lifts or climb ladders and chase after our beloved marines.
