Nice <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo--> avatar. If you mess around with it yes you could see cloaked aliens.
What does however is your graphics card, crappier graphic cards can see cloaked aliens like it's nobody's business

Because it doesn't draw the cloak properly
I know because I have several crappy computers

is this a sarcastic statement?
lol...
because if you if you can see "cloaked" skulk then there really is no use to the upgrade and put's the marine at an advantage

umm I have a VERY ghetto graphics card (radeon 7200 64MB) and back in the day I couldn't see a skulk with cloaking until he decides to eat me. HOWEVER, one day I decided to use gl_overbright 1 and lightgamma 1, and could see them moving from across the room. Also Whiteknight had powerstrip(yes it can be used still) and it helped him A LOT so gamma most definitely DOES help your ability to see cloaked skulks.
That may have changed in the last few months(gg Disney) but when I played NS on the 19th of May it still worked.

It's all in your head, brightness shouldn't affect the average person enough so that he can see cloaking easier
Unless of course you have a crappy montor, or you are in a dark area, but my monotor is nice and bright so yeah.

Well as far as the cloak not being drawn very well is your graphics card, but actually being able to SEE the incosistancies... I would guess brighter would be easier for older people.

Ty for the GL my FFT dude
Why spend all that money on a good vid card... only to turn the settings all the way down??
<span style='color:white'>Be nice.</span>
Don't say that, or next thing you know people will start accusing others of resolution cheating <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

With settings all the way down. Player models will still be sharp, but the rest of the world will be blurry and crappy. And the contrast between the sharp and the blurry make it easy to see your enemy and score kills.
Nadagast explained this better and with pics so search if you want to know anything further.
Just my 2c.

On top of that, I would much rather have a solid 90-100 fps instead of 50-100 fluctuations. I play the game for fun, fun to me is killing aliens. If I were playing the game for atmosphere I'd have my lightgamma set to 8 with my graphics cranked right up. XD
Remember the Arcade vs Simulation? .. this is it, tho it would be fun (at a lan) to play with lightgamma and all gamma settings like 5.. Scary
Lightgamma 0 (and the way to do it?)
gl_overbrigt 1/0 (rumor, does it help?)
low settings in gfx card?

In your config
Lightgamma 0

low settings in gfx card (I guess... turning off AA would help a bunch)

Actully i just tested low/high video settings, i couldn't see cloaked SCs in MS with any of them. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> thx for Lightgamma fix Forlorn.
No, that's just plain wrong. It just makes stuff brighter, it does not make stuff black... which won't help you see cloaked stuff. It's locked at 2 or 2.5 or above anyway
