Bring back the maps!
I recently tried the 1.04 pack put together by Bry (I joined in the 2.01 era) to see how things used to be. I'm certainly glad that things have moved on as NS is certainly a lot more polished now.
The one thing I would like to see though is some of the old ambience which the maps used to have. Going through the maps like eclipse, hera, nothing was quite amazing. There seemed to be so many more cubby holes, dark areas and interesting rooms than the rather bland array we have now.
Welldone for putting it together Bry! Just need 1.04 server now.

Now that I think of it, I see most of the ambience from then in the newer versions as well.

And yes, the maps were a bit more 'atmospheric' back then, but that was mostly due to being basically darker. And although dark is OK in a single player game, in multiplayer games it's usually just an annoyance. So you get maps that look dark without being really dark, and people are happy. Not that the old 1.04 era maps aren't great maps, and I salute the original mappers for making the first steps into mapping for a game whose balance had yet to even be determined. But I'll take the evolved, balanced versions any day.
I think there's a good reason why many people don't play 1.04 still.

It hurts my self esteem. =[

Which is partly due to the maps, but if you're playing them on purpose then I think you'd be able to look past that part.

You can also download the 1.04 maps for 3.0 here
just remember that the onos will get stuck quite abit when you try to uprgade. You really need the stuck plugin on a server in order to play these maps
The only reason I called it Noname was because of Mother Interface. I tried to use Mother for the hive and Interface for MI but each time I said go to Mother, half the team went to MI while we were losing Mother Hive
Actually, playing 1.04 at all seems to be self-induced masochism.
I love it how 3.0 is so much better in balance, in atmosphere, and in performance. And when it's released people grumble about it and go back to playing the unstable and buggy nonsense they're used to.
