Valve would have to be complete bastards to tease us with this then not go through with it (although I can put nothing past them), but this is definitely good news even if the real singleplayer mapping can't begin till the 16th.

So can you download it or not?

Not getting my hopes up yet. It may just be locked files downloading that can't be used for anything for another week or two...

As cool as it'd be I think I may have to agree with Bob but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Valve always stick the html up hours before the download, and I really don't see why they'd lock Hammer when people could be creating CS:S maps.

That isn't to say I'm completely confident about this, considering Valve's track record, but we'll see soon enough.

Don't bet on getting it today even if they do intend to give it to you. They are usually a bit too optimistic.

    Till now. Radiant for life!!!

But on a side note, I'll give this a try, I still don't see what's diferent from the HL1 version though and I will party the day the Radiant team adds HL2 support.

Does HL2 even support patch meshes ala Doom3 or even the 5 year old Quake3? Or is everything brush based and carfully placed verticies?

You're basically required to have HL2 purchased over Steam currently to have it show up in your Steam list.

    The post from HLCoders:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
The initial version of the Source SDK has been released.
You need to own a Source game to have access to the SDK.

This release includes Source tools and work-in-progress
documentation. These tools allow creation of Counter-Strike Source
maps, models, and materials. Once the SDK is downloaded and
installed, all tools, example content and documentation will located
in your Steam folder Steam\SteamApps\<account>\sourcesdk. Tools like
Hammer and Half-Life Model Viewer can be started directly from the
    Steam SDK menu.

The Source SDK will be continously updated, this first
release doesn't contain any source code to build customized server &
    client binaries (Mods).

For help on the SDK release visit <a href='http://collective.valve-erc.com/' target='_blank'>http://collective.valve-erc.com/</a>

Makes sense, you need the engine to make use of it.

Can anyone extract (copy and paste maybe?) that character
    rig/biped for me?
(Just the rig and the effectors. I already have a model laid out.)
I figure I can scale it down and attach it to the
robot I modeled in XSI a while back because I can't figure
out how to make my own rigs/bipeds.

Upload/PM/attach it here if you manage it.

After messing around in Hammer for 5 minutes and running its built in compiler (which works pretty well), i managed to make de_mess.

Tis an interesting map, as shooting any one of the barrels results in large explosions and multiple barrels bouncing around, going fast enough to crush you if you are unlucky enough to get hit by one of them.

    edit: picture!
