Actually it's probably because I'm trying to get my hands on the limited edition, they said if I wanted the regular version I can just pass through the mega line on halo2 day and pick up a regular version.

Anyone know of a place I can switch preorders to to just get it on the 9th?

Actually, check in with your local GameStop again. Your shipment has in fact been moved up, and will arrive on the 9th. Trust me, I work for the company. They managed to work it out.

And Sid, whoever near you that is selling Halo 2 is breaking street date and can be majorly fined and put last on the list for resupplies from Microsoft. Do trustworthy retailers a favor and report them, 1-800-FIX-XBOX is the number we were told to call. I don't care if you buy 5 copies and sell them on Ebay first, as long as you report those idiots.

The collector's edition makes me sad, they put the 2 discs in but they're sitting right on top of each other, so the top one has a much higher probability of getting scratched. Yes, I opened one and checked. Couldn't resist. Mmmm... Halo 2.

Then again people tend to like released games better.

About the health bar: You don't lose your health, you lose your health bar. You know, the thing on your HUD that tells you how much health you have? It's gone, but you don't die instantly when you lose your shield.

In all honesty thats a good idea.

Gives a little more of a "OMG I'M GONNA DIE!" feel to it.

Right I know some people have problems but Half-Life 2 is out Novemeber 16th world wide, anothing about Halo is mentiond in that 1st sentance.

The 2nd refers to me thinking about buying an xbox but not knowing many GOOD games to buy for it, so I asked if anyone knew any good games that could be bought.

Oh and my PC can run Doom 3 etc very well.

Plenty of stores have recieved shipments of H2 already. The shop Insane Games a few doors down from my house has it (they aren't selling it, though!).

At first I wasn't excited about Bungie.net's stat tracking system, but then I saw this. Indeed, Bungie.net is looking like it'll be the internet's leading cause of awesome when Halo 2 comes out.

My only question for the first people to play it :

Does it, like Halo, feel like you're running through treacle?

I loved Halo, I really did. But the momentum and physics didn't half irritate the crap out of me. Especially the slllooooowwww movement on practically everything. (Yes, before someone jumps in, I have Xbox and PC versions)

Ya, that was my only concern. If you are side strafing and you jump while doing so you are just asking for a sniper round to the head.

The funny thing was you could jump onto marine and hunters. <_<

Halo's pace is one biggest contributing factors to it's excellent gameplay. If you want a faster game try UT2K4.

Everything except that comment that the LE is 2 discs on top of eachother makes me more excited about the game.

...despite the fact some of the textures in those videos look a bit bland. Topography always looks so sharp though...plus the intro movie looks like it will have interesting levels (MP levels look designed well, but a bit bland in spots...video quality is also kind of poor).

I just played through the first level of the campaign. It was good, about what I was expecting. There were a few glitches in the cinematics, just a couple minor ones with sounds not quite synching up with graphics. Nothing gamebreaking, but it shouldn't really have made it past quality control that early in the game.

Firing dual wielded SMGs (or just one) makes your view climb something fierce. Think Quake 2's machine gun, and that's the Halo SMG. Dual plasma rifles were my weapons of choice, a very fast firing rate and very nice damage, and they cool off faster than they did in the original too. I think the battery lasts longer as well.

You view can be zoomed with any gun now, but you can only fire while zoomed on the battle rifle and maybe some others I didn't get to use like the sniper rifle and rocket launcher.

Plasma grenades look much more awesome.

Architecture seemed much more varied this time around. While the Pillar of Autumn level in Halo was very sparse and consisted of pretty much nothing but corridors, this first level contains a lot of more complex level design and a definite increase in variety. Yes, the predominant color is a boring gray, but they do much more with it this time architecturally. That's a big plus.

The marine stationary gun seemed a bit meh in terms of firepower, the alien plasma turret was more satisfying. They both seemed a bit superflous, as it's just as effective to get down and dirty with your own weapons than to sit behind the turret and get it done.

***very minor spoiler alert***

There's a bit where you go outside into a low-gravity low-atmosphere environment and sounds are muted drastically, a nice touch.

***end spoiler***

All in all, a solid game. It definitely has that Halo feel to it, in fact one could almost complain that the single player campaign feels kind of like an expansion pack with better graphics, more weapons and different levels. Definitely a fun game however, and the plot is well developed by cutscenes and in-game radio traffic.

Haven't tried multiplayer yet, and won't before the game actually releases. This was a strictly one-time deal

I don't know.. I've noticed that like everything else about Halo, the story has two main views on it.
You have one group that think its the best thing since sliced bread, and possibly have multiple orgasms thinking about it.
Then you have another group that thinks the story was a pile of turd and was hardly noticeable at all.

I'm.. one of those people in the second one. I don't care about what the books say. I don't buy and then read 5 books to figure out what is going on in the game I'm playing. I'm willing to read like.. a page and a half on a website for free and then get the rest of the story in the game.

I just realized the shield indicator is above the motion tracker...it's so out of the way. It's annoying when you need to look all over the screen to get the information you need.

I shouldn't need to play 4 corners when I want to know my status...

Along with the health, they should have just kept it like in the first one. Although, this is something that I consider worse than the lack of health.

Especially in a game with the motion tracker turned off, it will be even more retarded.

Very true. Even though I flaunt the story in Halo a lot, they could've done a lot more in the first game. The 2nd though is VERY heavy on story- some will even say too much D:

...uhh...that's kind of the point. You shouldn't need to look all over the screen to find your status. It should be a click glance to a corner to see your ammo and health and then back to the action not: up to the amoo, down to the health.
• JediYoshiJediYoshi The Cupcake Boss Join Date: 2002-05-27 Member: 674Members
Most consider that a waste of screen space.

By "only looking at the top 2/3" I mean that's pretty much all you looked at, ever.

And what are you talking about UltimaGecko, the 2/3 top already had the stats in it.
• UltimaGeckoUltimaGecko hates endnotes Join Date: 2003-05-14 Member: 16320Members
In Halo:
MT is in the bottom left (occasionally used)
Ammo Indicator is in the top left (depends on weapon use, but commonly used)
Grenade Indicator is in the top right (often used in combat)
Health Indicator is in the top right (often used in combat)

In Halo 2:

Primary Ammo Indicator is in the top right.
Secondary Ammo Indicator/Greande info is in the top left
MT and Health ae combined in the top left.

Now, granted, I haven't played Halo 2 yet, but Halo 1's outfit is much more efficient, especially if you have Motion Tracking off (in MP). The only applicable reason for the health to be by the MT is in MP...since the Covies aren't very adept at hiding and running away from you. So, in conclusion: Halo 2's HUD looks like it's designed like crap (compared to Halo's).

The less intrusive the HUD is the better. It shouldn't take up the whole screen. It should take a corner and you shouldn't need to look in 3 different corners to get basic information.
