Ut Map Conversion - Deck16][

any ways, my PC is now back, My mouse died, so bought a new one, and FINALLY decided to get to work and finish the map, its now almost complete, just need to go round and check the textures, and do the lighting... sooo..

Ill need some people for a closed beta test.. Please remember when testing this is a conversion of a UT(99) map and may need some additions/changes to make it more NS Friendly (like vents etc) -- this is intended as a Fun "custom" map not as a serious game
its a COMBAT map so only play if you like combat biggrin-fix.gif - i estimate the end of the week for map completion (thats the 30th APPROX)

Im Aiming for 2 tests, the first as an initial test, and the second AFTER fixing bugs and reoslving issues the first test shows up.. the first one will (hopefully) be on the 29th and the second, on the 31'st.. ill announce the times as-soon as i work out when i am available biggrin-fix.gif

    Deck 16 was originated as a map in the original unreal, not UT, just to let you guys know. Although I believe it has appeared in every incarnation. Great map.

    I'll test it for you. I love the layout for it when playing it for UT. I assume you are just going to enlarge it, so it is bigger. The regular scale would be way too small. How are you going to work the middle too (the platforms that slant upwards)? I really can't say how it plays until I can play it.

    I've played the original Unreal Multiplayer maps and I must say that this one isn't the most NS friendly one to choose. Onoses just won't be touched by anyone who knows what an Onos is. At the same time it'll be nice to see more Lerks in Combat, but I also fear that their spores and umbra will only be effective for diving attacks. Even the corridors in this map are huge so Aliens aren't gonna have fun with out celerity/adrenaline speed combos. It's also quite big for a Combat map, and the lifts next to the Hive might be incredibly annoying gameplay-wise. Have you thought about changing them to ladders?

    At a guess the Marines will have a very easy time of this, I'd recommend putting the Hive in a more enclosed place of the map with closer corridors, where it is now just means that whenever the Aliens step out from the Hive they'll be 0wned. Maybe you wanna wait 'til playtesting to find that out but I've got a pretty strong feeling that's what'll happen.

    I think a better map for a Unreal > NS Combat conversion would be the one with the giant heal pod in the middle. (trigger_hurt doing negative damage anyone?). Someone needs to get on it before I do.

    EDIT: Yes 'random' spawning locations would balance it out a bit, apart from the fact that Aliens respawn as skulks now and that Marines might run out of ammo before they get to the Armoury, so resupply is an absolute must.

    Just a little thing, but in your first pic where the command chair is, i see water. In the game, it is lava as we see here.

    In the second shot Cartman posted you'll notice a grating section in front of some pipes running down the side of the lava pit. If you're still set on keeping the Hive where it is then I'd recommend you throw in some vent entrances along there.

    this is a remake of the ORIGINAL unreal tournament level deck16][, and in the deck16][ map thats acid not lava. most of the ut maps that were remade for ut2k4 look better, but me personally as an old gamer i like the original better.

    MAKE IT DEATHMATCH!!!

    i imagine it wont be too hard to do seal off the hive and CC and then just put random spawn points everywhere and make it a combat map

    I had thought about that Crono - but there would need to be a mod made (Amx or adminmod script) to allow X team to win on X Kills or X player to win on X kills, either way that is an easy thing to do if somones willing to write the mod biggrin-fix.gif

    you could make a counter for each team with a targetname game_playerkill which count's the kills. and after x kills the corresopnding objective. hive/cc get's destroyed. Not sure if the game_playerkill properly works in NS, but maybe it's worth a try.. and if it works.. welcome to deathmatch nerd-fix.gif

    Correction - those phots are of Deck 17 - the 2k3/2k4 version. The remake is of Deck 16 ][ - the UT99 version.

    Oh and the CC is where the Flak cannon always is, not the biorifle.
    Thismap really is gonna need vents for tehaliens to have a chance.

    so we got this so far:

    deck16 (the original) - unreal
    deck16 ][ - unreal tournament
    deck16 ]|[ - unreal tournament 2003/2004


    lol i remember playing unreal on my voodoo1 card back in '96. now thats an old game.

    I decided (after a closed test with a couple of clan mates) to move the hive..

    to make it more "NS" Friendly (ok, its a co map but still...) I added a new room for the hive, it sitll looks and feels like deck 16...

    heres a picture of the new room(hive room) in its current state...

    interesting. Deck16 was my fav map from Unreal, and in UT. Awesome map. A good conversion here i might add, though it looks... well... it seems like the textures are too dark. i remember the floor particularly being a rather light concrete texture.

    for thoes who "complain" about the textures ALL the textures (Except the slime/water ones) are imported directly from UT << The Slime and Water ones arent because they are animated textures in UT, and HL doesnt support that type of animated texture..

    The walls, walkways etc.. all the same textures as UT

    Unreal was released on March 30th in 1998. Half Life was released on October 31st 1998.
