Yeah! It's like "OMG I finished my doctoral thesis!" then "OMG BSOD" then "wheres the effing sledgehammer" followed by "DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *smash* *crash*". And yes, they only happen when you haven't saved your work for a while. It's like <i>Gates' Law</i> or something.
