well, i sure belive in the paralyzation (english, aint my native L.) course it seams logical to me that something happends and sends hormones around your body.
HOWEVER, i do not belive in "out-of-body" experiences... come on people, realize it... there are no UFOs and if there is, its properly just Bush testing his new military planes...

The only true monster is my teacher, she eat puppies for breakfast. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

<!--QuoteBegin-lolfighter+Oct 22 2004, 06:55 AM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (lolfighter @ Oct 22 2004, 06:55 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> If you've ever played D&D, you probably know what a beholder is. It's a large fleshy orb, about 1.80M in diameter. It has one big frontal eye, a large mouth with long teeth, and on the top, it's got ten eyes on stilts. The most extraordinary thing about the beholder is that within the line of sight of the frontal eye, no magic works at all, even the beholder's own.

I have a confession to make. I have lied to you. Bear with me; I'm frustrated. Not only do I believe in psi powers, I KNOW they exist. I know this because I am one of the most powerful psi users alive. Please, do not think I am bragging. This is a proven fact. My powers, however, are rather extraordinary in nature. If I had full control over them, I could lift houses off their foundations. Don't worry, I'd use them for the greater good. I'd be like a comic-book superhero, only not in one of those ridiculous costumes.
However, the sad fact is that I cannot control my powers. I've tried to do so for quite a while now, yet I have made no progress at all. I think it is my fate.
You see, there is a certain power that I cannot deactivate. I mentioned the beholder and its antimagic field. I have an antipsi field, only much more powerful. The beholder only neutralizes magic in front of its large central eye, I neutralize psi everywhere around me. The beholder has a range of only 45m, my range is far greater, somewhere around a kilometer I think. And finally, the beholder can stop the effect of his field by simply closing his eye. I cannot turn mine off. And it completely prevents me and everybody else from using any other powers.
The theory goes that someone with greater powers than mine can overrule my antipsi field and exercise his powers even inside my sphere of influence. That is why I say that I am one of the most powerful psi users alive: No one has ever been able to match me. One of the people who have posted in this thread has tested his powers on me. You know who you are. You failed completely. Please, do not be upset about this, you were a beginner, and people with ten times your experience have gasped in astonishment as their powers vanished in my presence. However, if you will, step forward please and confirm my story.

Well, psi-users in my town shun me. They have tried to demonstrate their powers to me, and they have failed. Yet they insist that it works when they're alone. I eventually came to the conclusion that this must be because I carry a big anti-psi field around with me. I asked the other psi-users about this, and they eagerly confirmed my suspicions. Otherwise, why wouldn't their powers work when I'm around?

So if you know an extraordinarily powerful psi user, please alert him to my problem. It should be easy to find me - if he sends his spirit searching, the presence of such a huge anti-psi field as mine should be overly obvious. He will find me at its epicenter. If he is more powerful than me, he should be able to enter my anti-psi field without problem. And if he is more powerful than me, he might be able to shut it off by force (I hope the shock doesn't kill me). With the anti-psi field off, not only would I stop bothering other psi-users around me, but I could start harnessing my own vast powers. So if you know somebody who can help, please ask him to search for me.

    At least I'm not as ugly as a beholder. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

Just so it's well known, I am very very glad that I have absolutly no instances of sleep paralisis that effect me.

Not that its any comfort sheena but whenever I dream, except in extreamly rare cases, I feel like it is very much a real experiance, so I can very much relate to you when you talk about how real the SP experiance is. Most of the time the only way I decifer dream from reality is when I wake up and my memory recompiles causing me to realize that the things that happened to me between the time I remeber going to bed on X day and the time I remember waking up on Y day couldn't possibly have taken place in a temopral sense. It usually takes a good half hour to hour to pull out the logical inconsitancies the dream contained, so if I dreamt things that didn't take place outside of the physical location of my bed, I can very much imagine how terrifying the experiance would be.

Wow, sheena. You really know your stuff. They say that circumstance is the best motivation, and that couldn't be more true. It happens to you, therefore it motivates you to learn more about it.

It has never happened to me though, but it sounds horrific. Maybe it did happen to me one time, now that I think about it. I remember as a child, waking up and thinking there was a big hairy black spider on top of me, and I was too afraid to move (or maybe I couldn't, I don't remember).

My parents said it was a reoccuring nightmare I'd had for months. I don't remember too much about it though.

Wonderful post sheena, very informative. If you have any more to share, please by all means do.

If you don't mind talking about it, (I certainly would understand if you would rather not), do you remember enough of any of your personal episodes to give a detail of exactly what happens? Or, much like dreams, are they forgotten soon after waking up?

p.s.: copying without crediting is known as <a href='http://sleepparalysis.dnswh.com/what_is_sleep_paralysis.htm' target='_blank'>plagiarism</a>. Not that it matters on a messageboard, just sayin'.

There's a leprechaun in my house. You can come over and see it. However, it's very shy. It will likely scurry under the couch right when you come in. It's also quite quick, so it will move around when you blink. You might not ever catch a glimpse of the leprechaun or find any evidence of it being there, but it's just very good at hiding and cleans up after itself.

But it still exists. Trust me.

Er... the issue isn't that you used someone else's words. The issue is that you didn't say whose words. Calm down, get off your soapbox, and edit into your post the URL where that comes from. Not hard.

    So angry!

Yes, your status as an ESL speaker is exactly why I figured it wasn't an essay you'd written. But a couple other people seem to have been given the wrong impression. The preferred way to say "I didn't write this" is to append something like "I got this from here: www.whateverrandomwebsite.com."

During SP a person may try to cry out or "fight" the presence they believe is responsible for causing them to be paralyzed. This has never helped me nor anyone else I've ever heard of, but somehow we have the innate feeling that we must "fight" this feeling. Usually movement returns slowly, usually within a minute or so.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Is this right?

I have been experiencing sleep paralysis almost every week. And I believe I have actually gotten used to it and managed to "fight" and break this paralysis after a bit of time. It's more of a nuisance, not a horror to me as of right now.

*Imagine someone sleeping in the bed, opening up his eyes, and after a while, waving his arm, shaking his head, going back to sleep. Do all again in 5 minutes.* That's my weekly sleeping routine.
