No not at all. I feel the same way, except I hated Halo with a passion worthy of its bland levels.

Amen! I'm increasingly more excited about the possibilities of the next generation mapping software than about the game itself.

Just compare maps made with the half life engine originally -- say crossfire or subtransit -- with maps being made now. Say, just about any of the official NS maps. Or some of the work being done by the nightwatch team. It's hard to believe that they're built on the same engine. Now look at the screenshots of HL2 maps, and imagine what will be achieved by mappers once they get their hands on it and start tinkering... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

What I'm really hoping for is a more intuitive interface for starters. Instead of the incredibly unfriendly interface that hammer has. (Selecting 30 brushes to texture them and then accidentally clicking the wrong spot and deselecting everything, anyone?) Not to mention that the tools that would be most useful (make hollow, carve, clip) range from tricky to impossible to use, because they're so poorly implemented. And mainly I'm imagining the possiblities of using a familiar mapping interface on an engine that will support a lot more map. I'm hoping that the HL2 engine won't start lagging with 1000 wpolies on screen. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> I'm also hoping for real curved surfaces instead of "you'll just have to pretend this is a cylinder" brushwork. And hopefully much more intelligent implementation of entities. (So we don't end up with problems like NS has) Basically I'm hoping to be able to make the maps I've always dreamed of making without having to strip off all the nice bits so that it conforms to an engine that's far past its prime. And then there's the new skybox effects I've heard about... and the potential of building levels that are massive compared to HL1... and in game vehicles... I mean come on, compared to hammer, ANYTHING is going to be better. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It's not what the editor can do, it's what the engine can hold. The tools are just a conduit for getting your creativity from your head to the level; the limit comes from what you can fit, not what you can make. Well, sometimes what you can make. But you can always go make Doom 3 maps or something.

    edit: btw woot.
