Not much changed, but i removed the detail textures from the zip since they are no longer supported by ns.

    I had to build the minimap myself. Oopsie?

    Otherwise, a very nice and atmospheric map. The ambient sounds in many areas add a sweet touch. Sad to see the detailtextures go. This version is a lot less laggy than the old one as well, good job. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just curious, but why is that Thursday's U-Turn ? Randomness or a reason?

    I've never been big on custom maps for ns due to the complexity they have versus any other HL mod. I glanced at most of them just in case I see one that I think would do well in competitive play. I've fallen in love with this map already, I just gave it a good 30+ minute lookover. I'll see if I can get a playtest going with some other competitive players and see what we get out of it, then post back here with the results.

    I'm curious, sir pepe, have you tried submitting this to tyr to see about PTing it for officialness?

    Every time I walked through Thursday's- U-turn I got told that my texture alignment was off, and that I should be using more ns.wad textures.

    As far as I know you found a little Texturebug years ago in this Map.

    Well I just had a look at the nsworld pics. It looks pretty solid but I have a few nagging details.

    The 'new chamber' Hive:

    <!--emo&::hive::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/hive5.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='hive5.gif' /><!--endemo--> -healme!-
    <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo--> -Soz man-

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Hive is just a tad inaccessible for poor ol' Gorgey. Other than that you might want to add some trims to the sides of the floor grating. I like the 'datacore pillar' Hive and that binary texture is mint! Overall impression of the map is good. No PC to play it on atm tho.

    It's a shame... that so few attention is given to this great map, i think there are 100 siege servers running an not a single one with this map
  • Lt_GravityLt_Gravity Join Date: 2003-04-28 Member: 15909Members
    same problem as ever:
    you have to feature webspace to host the maps so you can download it from there. this webspace also has to be connected to the party running the server. know what I mean? its a lot of work to create a custommap server. maybe when I have time I will start managing the customcycle for our server (4th try!!!).
  • the_bERtthe_bERt Join Date: 2004-06-21 Member: 29436Members
    i know, but since its possible to config the server to let clients download the map via ftp that "downloading 3 mb maps with adsl in 1 hour" should be forgotten.
    If you make a server, ill give it a visit - in fact i played with/against your clanmates today ^^.

    Very cool map. I love the sound effects. And the snowy glass effect aswell. It gave me shivers, and it made the whole map feel very cold and isolated.

    The music in the Crew Quarters, is that from Parasite Eve? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    And one of the sound effects sounded like it was from one of the many Metroid games.

    Good stuff.

    i only found 8 rt's :o

    so either i'm blind, or you should consider adding 1 more. i suggest the control room (red room next to it) near chamber hive.

    also, the lab hive is VERY open, and easily spawncamped. you need to add some cover and vents.

    in chamber hive the roof is very high and overall all the 3 hives are very jp-friendly. with core and lab this isnt as troubling as with chamber since they both have narrow corridors outside them, but chamber hive is just jp-heaven.

    overall excellent map, has all the chances to become official.

    Wow, fantastic map!

    It feels very solid and has some amazing architecture around the entire map.

    First of all, that huge hive with the three teired infenstation... incredible, I love that hive!

    I also loved the pipe vents, they were extremely sexy!

    My only problem is Marine start was a little bland, and that HUGE corridor could bring up a few problems with Marines vs Skulks, and the bottom Hive was a little bland vs the others.

    Finally, there is a weld spot in the Control Room opens up a red room... which does nothing.. I couldnt find any exits from it or anything, just a plain room? Did I miss something?

    Great map all up! Im sure this will become official.

    in the red room you can place sieges that will reach the hive. otherwise, as i understood, you need to place sieges further ahead on the hallway, which is pretty risky.

    edit&bump: ok, i was wrong: 9 rt's. still, i did some testing and it seems lab hive is incredible easy to siege (at least on paper). there's either the long, wide, curving hallway which allows sniping the hive and still protecting the sieges reasonable, since you can back off in case of spores (and aliens still need to come forward into the open to eat you). the other side is worse i reckon, because you can simply place the tf and sieges in crew quarters and camp the door.
