<div class="IPBDescription">My computer is acting really strange</div> This all started yesterday night. What happens is this, whenever I try and join a game online, whether it is NS, CS, ut2k4, soldat, whatever, when I try and bring up a list of the servers something really weird happens. The first server usually shows up with a ping of about 100, pretty normal, but then the 2nd shows up with ping of about 300, then 450, then 700, then 1000, then 1600, and then they usually stop popping up after that. If I join one, it connects just fine, but once I get in my ping slowly starts going up. Starting at about 100 then steadily increasing to 600 all the way to 1 or 2k. This happens in every online game I've tried. Now, my first thought was "Perhaps, since my wireless internet is unencrypted, somebody is sitting on my bandwidth. So I finally got around to setting a password, only to see the problem is still there. I try a spybot and adaware scan, I clean the things they find, but still..The problem persists. I do an online virus scan an it shows 2 diffrent entries. One is something like sddrop, which I was able to fix just fine, and then one called bkdr sdbot.14176 that was supposedly infecting the system32.exe. I opened up taskmanager and found system32.exe running and closed it, still the problem is going on. Argh!

I would post this in tech support, except it isn't confined to HL, or to video games in general. It has been affecting other online related stuff.

    I'd concentrate on that virus.
Keep scanning and removing until nothing abnormal shows up in msconfig under "startup".

I'd suggest that the virus is feeding copies of internet data to some spyware company. Would explain the exponential increase in pings.

    Spur of the moment idea:
Close the virus exe, then wait. Does it reappear? Most modern viruses come in 2 parts, each exe reloading the other if it's closed. Removing both exes from msconfig will fix this. (But you need to know what's a system driver and what's a virus... Post what you have here and we'll sort through it for you.)

I updated adaware and spybot, and ran them after I did a full system virus scan. Adaware must have found something spybot didn't, and now everything seems to be working fine! Waiting to see if the problem resurfaces again though.

Well it seems the problem has come back...
Or atleast partly. I can join NS servers just fine, or any regular HL game for that matter. But if I try CS:S or UT2k4 it doesn't work...

SledgeHammer.exe life's solution to all computer programs
Umm try going into safe mode then trying to baleet the evil back door trojan virus worm. Most sites so far said use Anti Virus software, search and destory, ad-aware, hijackthis, online scanners. Working in safe mode though is usually a big +
