Version 2?

Can I still play version 2 anyway??
Haven't played Natural Selection for a while, combination of moving house, PC stolen and re registiring old cd key on steam.....so have purchased new version of halflife etc etc...

Anyway my questions are if you don't mind

- can I still play version 2 of Natural selection anyway? when I load steam in only gives me version 3 beta 5 games, even though I have installed only version 2

- if the above is possible, can I run version 2 and version 3, or do I have to have either or installed.

Thanks

Klassic

Its possible but pointless really, cause everyone else plays the upto date version, and it isvery rare to find an old beta 2 server with players on anyway as well.

okay thanks.....bloody steam has decided my new cd key bought today...is now invalid as already registered!!!!! it let me play while the server oevrload was being dealt with and it was still processing my key.

I am sooo frustrated now....2:30 am here and I have been looking forward to play natural selection and my two valid purchased cd keys are not working!!

I have emailed vugames addy but cannot supply pictures over the internet, no digital camera etc etc. SUpplied plenty of supporting info.....hope they can help. AM fearful that getting a refunded copy will continue same pattern of already registered key. Neither was secondhand copy and asked specifically for non returned copy from HMV arrgggghhhh :-)

I think you need to return your copy aof HL and give the store guys some talking to.
  • XenoXeno Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2343Members
its not the store guys problems. people just must have used a key gen.
  • KlassicKlassic Join Date: 2004-10-01 Member: 32037Members
Getting to the point where I may hunt down a key gen rather than constant back and forth to the shop to keep swapping the game. They have no facilities to check the key online at the shop :-( and it is a 1 1/2 hr round trip to them.

Downside is that if I use a key gen, then I presume some poor soul will encounter my problem in the future due to me duplicating their key and somehow that does not seem right.....

Sunday here now so nearly another weekend without natural selection and I used to love that/this game......bah....I am goona have to talk to the girlfriend or do those household DIY projects if I can't get online....and that is rrrrubbish.

Oh well I hopefully see some of you online in the not to distant future

    Cheers

Edit that post, no warez-talk allowed.

My suggestion is that you send your key to valve (that is you cut out the key of the box) and mail it to them and they will have it resetted.

    Coris,
I think I make it quite clear that I own legal copies of the game. Only phrase I use is key gen which is used in the previous post before mine :-). Only using it as an illustration of the avenue that Steam/Valve or whoever are sending me down to try and get an efficient solution. If you read the post I think you will see that I am not really intending to do this, as it will just mean cheating someone else out of their chance to play.

I have now discovered a secret email support addy that have agreed to me posting various other details rather than taking pictures of stuff and they will reset the key. Not gonna let on of this email address as was quite hard to find until my issue is resolved.

This is after no response from other official channels I was guided to use and expired webpages and support numbers that are not recognised.

I am not asking for keys, copies of games or anything such like so I am not encouraging warez, you can't put your head in the sand and pretend this stuff don't exist out there.

I mean do you have to edit your post because you mentioned warez???

yeah, what are you talking about? i didnt say where to get a key gen. i didnt say what it was. i didnt even say for him to use it.

i think your taking the rules a bit too seriously.

Poor guy, I'm sure some Cd-key must work. If not see if your friends have an extra copy of HL or CS cd-key you can use.

IE. When I bought my HL I bought the platinum pack, HL, BS, OpFor, TFC and CS. I can use either the HL or CS cd-key on steam, see if your friends have an extra cd-key lying around.

Hurrah, I got two new keys emailed to me today from official sources. Didn't have to supply pictures and the like, just emailed them with certain details about my disks. They sorted it in 3 days - two of which were Saturday and Sunday, proper customer support.

Am hesitant to say which company sorted as don't want to annoy them with a flood of requests....but I am very happy.

Cheers for the support and suggestion people.

See you in that dar confined long metal corridor.

I should have mentioned I am based in the UK, hence the posting of stuff to America was not an attractive proposition.

    Errr....
That post was so totally pointless, he already got a working CD-Key, but what exactly do you want to say with your post? He was talking about a not working CD-Key....
/e so totally pointless, why did I even post this oO (don't hate me)

    Indeed.

/me is suspicious of Miraculous 3rd party CD-Key giving company.

The CD-keys are not linked to the discs in anyway, so there's no way (that I can think of,) they could have asked you for details that would prove you owned a leagal cd key.

I don't know if this was trickery for me to reveal who gave me the key.....But it was an honest transaction I assure you.

They gave me new CD keys not reset the old ones. (I had two copies of Half life - my old one from years ago and the new one I bought to try and get new cd key...see previous posts)

    I had to give them

    Name of game
The S number on the disc
    The old CD Key
The number on the inner circle of the silver side of the disc (I think this is the unique bit)
    My name and address

The reason I am hesitant to name them is that the offical steam support seems to be all american based, my answer came from europe.

They are not hard to find if you own the original game and documentation but I am not gonna be the one who opens the flood gates as the steam forums would suggest a lot of legal owners are having problems with duplicate keys being out there. Don't know if it helped that in my correspondence I mentioned the tech support number in the manual is not recognised, yet the copy I bought 45minutes ago still has the old tech support number in it...maybe they took pity on me, or the fact I was really commited to getting this resolved properly not by nefarious means.

Upshot is, I am back playing natural selection. Haven't played since version 2 so a lot to catch up on it seems. Never remember it being so fast and so brutal....I guess old age is catching up with me

    :-)

Anyway all this just to respond to say my resolution to this problem was truly legal and through official channels. I do not want to be tarred as some kinda pirate on my first few days.

    Cheers all

VUgames do the CD KEYS for Half Life i believe.

My brother had this problem.. bought HL from PC WORLD, sets up a steam account and steam says that the cd key is invalid. Bloody sucks. But they are good with customer service. I email them with a picture of the game case and the reciept inc CD KEY and i got a new one within 2 days.

These invalid CD KEY problem seem to be happening to alot of people.

    :o
I own 4 2nd hand copies of HL that have been used by steam already. (eBay addict. )
(+ HL Platinum, which provides 2 1st hand CD-Keys for 2 of my 5 LAN pcs...)

    Time for some serious re-registration.

Klassic, I respect what you said, but you have to admit, it did sound a little dodgy to begin with. You acted sensibly; an asset to the community.

Did you just buy this game?
If you just bought this game in the past few days and were unable to register the CD key, please contact us. Send mail to hien.nguyen@vugames.com with the CD key and information about when and where you bought the game.

No worries BlueNovember (thanks for taking the time to reply)

.......to be honest I did not expect this thread to go on this long and apologies as this is the New Player forum not the Tech Help forum.

Realise I have added to the thread by posting this...but hope it is my last posting on the subject

    Thanks all
