Natural-selection Jumped 2 Needs Your Help!

Snippet from www.monanproductions.com
We are, as the topic suggests, planning on creating a sequel for our first movie,
Natural-Selection Jumped. Naturally, we're going to use the experience we got
while making NSJ to make this an even better movie.

After the success we had with the first movie, we've decided to make a sequel.
This time, however, we hope to get the community to supply us with most of the
jumps and/or ideas for jumps. So, if you have something good, demo it and
drop us a line in this topic, in our forums or in #monan @ irc.quakenet.org

Be warned that submitted jumps will most likely be re-recorded (we want HLTV
demos to make better use of different angles), but you will be credited for them.

I recorded some jumps and uploaded them here.

Suggestion for your recording in the future: I liked the way you sometimes used an external 'cameraman' to view the jump, but instead of using an in-game person, consider using noclip to get someone down out of the readyroom into the map. This way you can set up your camera angle in midair if you like, and you don't have lots of hud and a visible weapon blocking the action.

Huds and stuff can be shut off easy... Talk to any mapper and they will give you all the commands you need for clean shots...

Also, I was thinking that it would be cool if there was a pip with commander view, player view and marine view.

If you'd have bothered to read my original post you would've seen that we intend
to record all the jumps with HLTV, meaning that we can pretty much choose any
angle we want. There is also currently a bug that makes noclip not work on most
NS servers even though sv_cheats is set to 1. The reason for us choosing to not
remove the hud and weapon models in NSJ was to distinguish between aliens and
marines and because the kind of weapons your are carrying as well as amount of
ammo actually influence your speed. NSJ2 will be recorded mostly without hud
elements, though, as most of the jumps we have so far are impossible to do while
    carrying guns anyway.

QUOTE

Huds and stuff can be shut off easy... Console commands to remove the hud has been disabled in NS (and why would I
want to talk to a mapper about that anyway?), so you basically have to replace
your sprites and models with empty .spr and .mdl files.

QUOTE

Also, I was thinking that it would be cool if there was a pip with commander view, player view and marine view.

Good idea, we'll put it under consideration.

You know how well HLTV works in NS right now, yes? It's just like spec. 1st person, 3rd person behind, and those are your options. And to be clear, I wasn't talking about removing the hud from the jumpers. Obviously you'd be cheating if you were making marine jumps with RR marines, they can bhop. I was talking about the 'cameramen', the other players you sometimes used to get a 3rd person view of the shot. It doesn't seem very professional to have a hud and weapon in your shot when you're just trying to show a marine jumping by overhead.

And noclip will always work on every map if you turn on sv_cheats 1 FIRST and then load the map. Good luck with your next video.

spec_mode 3 gives freelook in hltv, hltv demos and spectate mode.

I did the third person shots with hud/weapon models intact to create a specific
theme in NSJ. If you look closely, you'll see that there's allways a rine watching
the alien jumps and vice versa.

(In hindsight, however, I do agree with you: removing the HUD and weapon models
looks better in third person footage.)

As for the noclip thing: Might want to actually know what you're talking about
before you start blabbering. It doesn't work for me, nor does it for a lot of other
    people I've talked to.

    changelevel ns_whatever

This has always worked for me. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you. I use it all the time when checking out maps that I'm building. Although that is in single player mode. In multiplayer, you're right, it may react differently. Try adminmod and admin_noclip perhaps?

I've tried adminmod, actually, but I found it to be too much work (yes, I'm lazy :/ ) to be useful. I don't need it anyway.

Would it be possible for a skulk to jump onto the claw, then onto the other side, then back onto the ledge?

    That would be cool.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there, but it is possible to do the sequence of jumps shown in the pic below as a skulk. Even so, it still isn't very interesting.

Since I'm not so sure about the reliability of free hosting sites, I'll just upload the better jumps to the forums.

Marine bunnyhop from the Heating Room floor, up the ramp, and then off the pipe.

Fall from the crate above Cargo on Origin, stopped by touching the ladder just before hitting the ground.

Hard to explain, but in Powersilo, jumping across from one of the lower ledges (lower meaning not one of the ledges just under the ceiling) to the one opposite it.

Jump onto the light and then rafters above Sewer hive on Caged.

Other jumps that I recorded but that don't fit are:

As a Skulk, bunnyhopping on the rafters above Smelting Room on Origin

In Foreboding Antechamber, jumping off the catwalk onto one of the sloped areas on either side

Jumping from one of the sides of Omega Site on Altair to the catwalk in the center, and then jumping from the hive area back to the side

Jumping from one of the "structures" in Chemical Transport to land above the other; this is another way to do the "Chemical trickjump" featured in the previous movie
