I Want To Make A Batch File...
I want to make a batch file that will end every instance of internet explorer. The thing is, I'll be playing a game or something, and I suddenly get a pop-up, despite the fact that I've run spy- and ad-ware checks already.
So, I want to just press a button and have them go away, rather than doing the three fingered salute every time.

Why? Because I like batch files.

I concur. If you don't have IE open, then the thing pulling you out of games is either spyware, virus, or net sends. A batch file to kill IE's process won't protect against any of that.
I have Opera. I use Opera. The only time I use Internet Explorer is for Service Packs from Microsoft, because you HAVE to use Internet Explorer.

Disable net sends, as stated above. It is useless except as a means for companies to spam you, so of course Microsoft, in their infitie wisdom, turned it on by default.
Automatic Update (AFAIK) doesn't use Internet Explorer. It works fine for me and I don't even have IE configured. Which brings me to my next suggestion: configure IE with bad settings, just go in and set it to use a proxy that doesn't exist or something.
And of course, keep using Adaware and Spybot regularly.
... You know what would be cool? A live CD that would run Spybot and Adaware on your windows install without actually booting it, then it could even get the stuff that burries itself in there real good...
Not neccisarily, most spyware/virii hide themselfs in uneccisary, but constantly running processes. Windows won't allow you to delete them while they are running, but if you could run Adaware or SBS&D from dos (or unbooted like reccomended) you could just delete the offending files and boot normally, because without the file with the call function, the process can't start anyways.

Not really, that's kind of hard to do... Expecially compared to disabling net send which is really easy to do.
If you absolutly need netsend for some reason you could run through a hardware firewall and disable the netsend incoming ports, but I'm not even sure its possible to just kill the netsend functionality in the way you are trying to.
Unfortunatly MS never saw fit to make their commandline very functional, so there is no equivelent of the UNIX "killall" command. The best I can do is give you <a href='http://perlmonks.thepen.com/171477.html' target='_blank'>this</a> perl script, which a 30 second google turned up. Unfortunatly this does require the perl environment.
