The weapon is essentially a sword that disassembles into multiple blade portions kept together with a sort of chain that is inside the core of the blade that holds each of the pieces of the blade on to create a sort of whip. Here's a reference picture of Isabella Valentine, Soul Calibur II character wielding the weapon I mentioned, simply because I'm horrible at explaining things.
