I said somewhere before where I listed all my binds, I use arrow keys.

(btw wouldn't this make more sense as a poll?)

wasd is the way to go, more bindable buttons at close reach. i have binds for:

`12345
[Tab]qwerty
asdfgh
[shift}zxcv
[ctrl][space]

and that's just the left hand!

i have used wasd since i was first introduced into fps gaming, not long enough ago.

the ns keys i use now are partially transferred from my old DoD config which in turn was totally copied from my friend's config.

Eh, I use L and ; to strafe.
• napinapi Join Date: 2003-03-01 Member: 14172Members, Constellation
aah i used to play WAXD (X for +back instead of S)

then i realised the error of my way

Now i play tfbh : T = foward, F = strafe left, B = back, H = strafe right.

More than enough buttons (even for NS!) for every thing!

arrow kwys, del is use, end is drop home is map and insert was bandage (old dod) used the numpad for weapons too, and +-[] for winamp (i need more of a challange, ever scince i got banned for cheating with a score of 50-4) i also find it impossable to reach up with the left finger, i need that because i tend to leap in a marines face a lot.
1 sec, ill dig my binds up

arrow keys
numpad 1 2 3 4 9
ctrl, shift, and enter and backspace
del, end and home
q w e and a

mouse
left atk, right popup, wheel reload and swich weapons (although i never use that.)

WASD since quake 1. It works just fine.
But I still use the old quake1 default of mouse2 as +forward.
So I rarely actually use W for walking.
I kinda get a headache thinking about using w for forward while trying to jump, crouch and strafe.
I move that to the right hand, and i feel better.

I use edsf... gives me an extra set of keys. Plus by using home row, it doesnt totally screw me over when I type. I dont have to search or move over my hand to resume my movements.
• illusionillusion Join Date: 2004-08-25 Member: 30889Members
i used to use WASD, the typical keys for the typical moving movements.
W(forward)
A(left strafe)
S(back)
D(right strafe)

but i wanted an extra row between "strafe left" and the tab/caps/shift buttons, like Axel Stone, so i now use.

mouse2 (forward)
e (varies)
s (left strafe)
d (back)
f (right strafe)

As Marine
R - Reload

A real Reason for ussing WASD (or posibly pl;')
Meta Keys and the problems with pressing tomany keys at once.

it varies from keyboard to keyboard, but most can't go above 2 or 3 keys at one time. The exeptions to this rule are your meta keys (ctrl, alt, shift), this ofcourse does not include the mouse.

so you bind out the keys you are going to use in conjunction with many other keys to the metas/mouse.
ES:
Crouch (crouch+diag/use/jump/fire etc)
Jump (jump+diag/crouch/fire)
attack (attack+jump/crouch/diag/use)
secondary fire, or what ever takes its place in your mod/game (in my case I use +popupmenu on alt)
move fowards I definatly could see being one.

So that being said, my general config:

WASD (move)
M1: Fire
M2: Jump
MWheel: Weapon Switch.
Space: Use
Ctrl: Duck
Shift: Speed toggel
Alt: Secondary fire (or zoom/popupmenu/what have you)
Q: Last used wep
E: Something (VC in NS)
ZXC: Some more things (med/ammo req/map in NS)
R: Reload
F: Light modification.

WASD for moving.
TAB for scores.
SHIFT for walking.
Q for lastinv.
E for use.
R for reload.
F for flashlight.
CTRL for ducking.
SPACE for jumping.

M1 for shooting.
M2 for menu.
SCROLL UP for chuckle (as alien).
SCROLL DOWN for taunt as marine.

i used to use my arrow keys but i used to seperate my keyboard far from my mouse, so just tried wsad and got used to it..so

w = forward
s = backward
a = strafe left
d = strafe right

q = last inv

space = jump
ctrl = duck
shift = walk

I have a weird config...like i use both left and right mouse to fire and scroll button to bhop and marine bhop. if im bhopping since i use my pointer finger to scroll the wheel i use my middle finger to shoot (right mouse key) aand when im just strafe jumping i use
the left mouse key. Same with aliens .. bhop - use middle finger to attack , right mouse )

WASD for movement
Shift - Jump
Caps Lock - Walk (which has the annoying tendency of making me have caps lock on when I quit, but it works)
Space - Duck
Tab - Show Scores
R - Reload
E - Use
F - Flashlight? I never use it but I think that is what it is.
L-Click - Attack
R-Click - Menu

But now that I'm looking at this, I'm liking the idea of the num pad for upgrades.

You'll find you usually remove those after your first time to accidently gestate from Onos to gorge.
