Apologize, you jerks :D
Remember when everyone was crying and saying they were going to commit suicide because George Lucas was ruining the holy original trilogy beyond all reason, and as a side project was walking up to each and every one of them and personally punching them in the kidneys? Well, the list of changes is out, and surprisingly the did NOT change Darth Vader's armor to pink, as was previously rumored. Here you go:

QUOTE
A New Hope:
- 24'51" : twin sun effect has been renewed.
- 48'50" : Han Solo avoids Greedo's shot before shooting at him.

- 50'30" : Jabba effect renewed completely, in accordance with Episode 1.

- 71'30" and after : Death Star jail corridor is much deeper.

- 77' : the garbage monster has been improved.

- 82'10" : "Power" and "Tractor Beam" stencils have been replaced with Star Wars "foreign" signs.

Empire Strikes Back:
- 50'56" to 52'05" : Emperor's hologram has been reshot with Ian Mc Dairmid. A new dialog has been recorded and Palpatine informs Vader about Luke's real identity!

- 63'42", 87'18" & 98'39" : Boba Fett's dialog has been re-recorded by Temuera Morrison.

- 92'05" & 92"15 : Han Solo's black jacket has been erased, due to cut mistakes in the original movie.

- 101'40" : Luke's scream, which was added in the '97 Special Edition, has been removed again.

Return Of The Jedi:
- 24'44" and after : Edge transparency defects around the Rancor have been removed.

- 115'41" : Old Anakin's eyebrows have been erased and eyes are now blue, to fit with Hayden Christensen.

- 120'44" : Naboo has been added to Tatooine, Bespin, Coruscant and Endor victory celebration scenes.

- 120'58" & 121'03" : Senate & Jedi temple are now included in Coruscant panoramic view.

- 122'30" : As everyone knows already, Hayden appears as a ghost beside Yoda and old Obi-Wan at the end of the movie.

I hate Hayden, he can't act for ****, he's partly why i dispise episode 2 so much, why must they taint the holy trilogy with his presence.

I'll be interested to see how well they fixed the horribly borked "jumping Solo" from the Greedo scene and Jabba scene.

The new Emperor dialog burns in hell. Empire Strikes Back really doesn't need Lucas to poo it up.

The point in the series at which you find out Vader is Luke's father is a pretty **** big deal, and they are changing where in the story it happens? holy hell man.

I never heard of the pink Vader rumor.

The major changes I'm personally annoyed at is the Emperor's dialog and Hayden at the end.
But I do like all the technical changes (texturing, sound, lightsaber coloring). THOSE are the types of changes they should make, not the stupid ones aforementioned.

Agreed. There's some stuff (like fixing graphical glitches on the Rancor) that I'm fine with. But changing the location of major plot devices by shifting it over two film hours in the chronology is out of line.
I also don't like the idea of re-recording Boba Fett's dialogue. He's got so little of it that it's the sort of thing you don't screw with.

George Lucas needs some serious help. Classic case of OCD coupled with a compulsion to take a dump on classic films.

[edit]And also, who in their right mind would think these "updates" are gonna be worth 60 bucks to buy the series again? GG marketing department!

Youre right. Old GL didn't punch us in the kidneys. George Lucas just punched us MULTIPLE times. In the face.

I, for one, am boycotting these DVDs.

Considering I own 3 copies of the complete trilogy on VHS, that kinda says something about how upset I am w/ the new crap.

    You totally missed the point.

Anyways, as I've mentioned before its pretty easy to find bittorents of the DVDs made from the LaserDisc rips. Which are completely bastardization free. That way you can have star wars DVDs, the way you want them, while boycotting Lucas.

    I'm with Doomeh.

Seeing as how my roommate is like the master ripper/encoder of all media, I'm going to hand him my original remastered Star Wars trilogy box set and demand that he make me digital copies. At gunpoint.

Come on. Is it REALLY that hard to release the ORIGINAL, non-special edition crap? Just remaster it, tinker with the audio or whatever, slap it on DVD, and maybe make all the extra stuff an 'option' that you can enable in the play menu? I really don't see why they're not doing it, I'm SURE they know how many upset purist fans they've already made upset... sad-fix.gif

Why? I have it in DVD format that was ripped from a format that is comparable in quality (See here), it didn't cost me a dime, it pisses Lucas off, and I'm happy.

    Amen?

The point is clear. There is a distinct differences to "visual improvements" and changing the plot point. Having the Emperor reveal the son thing early in a "lull" of the action just ruins it. Don't deny it.
If only the Extras Disc was sold separately......
