Cpu Usage For Beta5: Has It Lessened?

I can't get a server loaded up (that I can monitor cpu usage) to check cpu usage for Beta5. Has it eased up any or is it the same as B4a?

    b5 seems to use less cpu on my linux hlds box, but take that with a grain of salt because at the same time I upgraded to b5 I went to the latest amxmodx .20 and ended up moving many of my amx plugins to metamod style plugins to avoid ns2amx compatibility issues. Not sure which of these a)b5 b) amxmodx or c) metamod plugins mostly rather than amxmodx plugins has made the most change.

    In any case, amxmodx is loved by all and seems to work loads better/faster than we ever got amx to work. (yes I am a amxmodx shill.) Give the new code a try sometime once they release .20 final.

    I have recently delved into amxx, being a hardcore adminmod fan all my server-op life. Although it (v0.16) is much more versatile than adminmod in regards to ease of coding for plugins it most definitely has twice as many plugins running at any given time (as adminmod)and is most definitely a resource hog.

    v0.20 is supposed to trim this down a good bit and therefore should lighten up the cpu usage. Truthfully, the ONLY way to accurately guage cpu usage would be to compare b4a and b5 servers running the same map with the same number of players and building alike as closely as possible.

    I am interested in windoze boxes btw ... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    This is only true if you let it be that way out of the box. There is no reason you can't trim half of the stuff out if you don't need it.

    For example, I have all the statsme, mysql and other CS related stuff commented out as well as running no modules. I'd argue that because amxmodx(which is what you should call it instead of amxx) has that many modules, you can pick and choose what functionality to load and unload as opposed to taking what meager functionality adminmod gives you, with less granularity as to what you can add and remove.

    Sorry, I can't lend any data on the the wintel side. I like to keep my intel cpu MS free. Saves me from loads of work every time MS puts out a service pack or new OS rev(which is really just a service pack.)

    To clarify, I compared the number of plugins running by using ONLY the stock ones it came with. Of course in amxx the stats plugins etc were all disabled as they won't work with ns and can even crash it.

    Stock plugins ONLY running, amxx has twice as many running as does adminmod.
    That being said, amxx would of course use more resources stock out of the box. The purpose of this post was not to open debate on this btw... <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Again, the <b>ONLY</b> way to accurately guage cpu usage would be to compare b4a and b5 servers running the same map with the same number of players and building alike as closely as possible, NO third party software.

    For me, it looks like about a 10% drop in cpu
