"map Differs From Server's..."

Want to play, but how!?
This is borderline tech-support, so I apologize if this is in the wrong category...it seemed to fit best here IMO.

Anyways, I'm new to NS, and I'm really excited about playing. But all the servers out there seem to be running Beta 4 maps...and I just downloaded beta 5!

WHERE ARE ALL THE BETA 5 SERVERS? WHAT CAN I DO?

Thanks so much...I really can't wait to play this game!

Yeah this is more of a Tech support question but I'll try to help anyway. Don't be surprised if this gets moved to tech support by a moderator though. Remember, this is a full installaltion and not a patch. You will want to make sure it is not installed over any older versions of NS.

To clear this up for good, what I would do is fully uninstall all versions of NS from your machine and delete the install locations that are left behind in your steamApps/halflife/ folder. Once that is done then you should re-install from scratch to clear up the problem.

Ok...I would uninstall and start over, but I don't know which .gcf file is the NS one!
Anyone have any idea what files NS adds to the "steamapps" folder?

I have three files that look odd:
    platform.gcf
    half-life engine.gcf
    half-life localized.gcf

All the rest I recognize as games, such as "Dayofdefeat.gcf"!

Can someone please help? I'd really like to play NS...

It's not an official steam game, so it's not located in a gcf file.

NS 3.0 beta 5 is located:

    c:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<email@addr.ess>\half-life\ns

NS 3.0 beta 4a and below is:

    c:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<email@addr.ess>\half-life\nsp

Note that you want beta 5.

Worth noting, anytime you do a fresh install be certain to backup all your configs.

ok...thanks for the help so far...

I found the ns files, but they're actually in a folder called nsp.

Anyways, do I delete them all (or even the whole folder?).

The game runs fine...I don't THINK I should have to reinstall...I just can't see/find any beta 5 servers when I search for games.

Delete your "nsp" folder (backing up anything you may want to save...)

Download ns 3.0 beta 5 client:
    http://download.jarhedz.com/ns_beta/ns_install_v3_b5.exe

Install it. You should now have a folder called "ns" not "nsp". That is beta 5.

    NEVERMIND PEOPLE!

Thank you for the help so far!

It turns out that the server I downloaded the game from listed "ns beta 5" but actually gave me beta 1.

    Oh well, go figure.

    Have a great day!
