Well, it's not that bad really, but then again, it's not exactly outstanding.

Firstly, i dispise the image preloading. Your site isn't exactly image intensive. On my 512/256 ADSL connection it takes longer to load the loading bar, fill the loading bar, then redirect to the page with the image than it would have taken to just load the image like any other site. What's more is you probably would have been better off and used flash if you wanted to mess around with pointless loading and such.

Image preloaders may have been a fairly good idea back when everyone was running a 28.8kbps connection whilst loading an image intensive site, but these days, it's pointless, and in this case, a hinderance. Ontop of the pointlessness of it, you state there's a known issue with IE and the preloader, to me, that's a perfect reason in itself to remove it.

EDIT: Wow, looking at the logo image, no wonder it needs a preloader, you've got so so so much damn wasted space there, crop that image down. The image is 800x500 pixels and you're only using like 600x250 there. Very wasteful.

Taking a little snoop at your html, it seems you're still using table tags for layouts. Bad idea. I suggest keeping up with the rest of the internet and making the move to CSS layouts. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It would also appear there's actually no content to your site, but i figure you know that and it's intentional just to showcase the design.

So yeah, the design. The circuity thing reeks of an images.google.com search for "circuit" and just throwing a schematic down and dropping the opacity. No real effort there. The fonts are too "JESUS CHRIST LOOK AT ME! I'M FUTURISTIC!!" but lack any style. For an example of stylish yet futuristic design, take a look at the game EVE Online, it doesn't throw "OMG FUTURISTIC!!" fonts in your face, but everything about it oozes style.

For some reason you've chosen to use two interfaces. One which clearly states a sub-heading of your site while another presents you with a choice of four glaringly similar icons which do, well, who knows what they do. There's no sense to having a "quick" menu when it's placed not 200 pixels above the "real" menu, and especially no point to having it if it is a) taking up about 33% of the entire window and b) isn't clear as to what any of it actually does. Fam would call this mystery meat, while the email one is pretty much recognisable, the others baffle me as to their purpose.

Now there's one thing i've overlooked in that last section. It does now appear that you have three seperate menus. The "quick" menu, the one just below that with about and news, and the third below the website "header." Would it really hurt to just use one menu?

Now, other things about the design. Random numbers are <i>so</i> three years ago. Really, the Matrix hype is long over, we don't need random strings of binary for no good reason anymore. One thing that strikes me as odd, the title is off-centre yet the underline for it is centred, i just don't think it works too well.

The main design parts are a bit too "this took 4 seconds in photoshop." Randomly cut angles from a block of colour, add colour overlay and an inwards glow and there's the layout, looks pretty tacky and quite rushed.

It appears you're aiming for some sort of computer panel or display type effect, why not try building on that some more. Rather than being satisfied with a default windows border to the page and create a futuristic display panel or monitor. Take a look at <a href='http://esuna.thezazi.net/cb10/' target='_blank'>this old design</a> of mine (excuse the imageready default tables, bleh), i'm not saying this is what you should do, but notice how i didn't just design a computer interface (as you're doing), i designed the display panel as well. For one reason this gives you a little more room for showing off, and secondly it adds just that little bit of extra style.

EDIT: Oh yeah, sites that open in their own windows suck. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
