Howard isn't going to win or lose because of this. We have no idea what the consequeces of this will be: it could be beneficial to either campaign, or both at the same time.

Yes, its cynical, but it is morbid, cruel and i don't think John Howard wants to have people like you supporting him; its not helping him any.

ROFL. I come under the banner of "hardcore rightwing conservative" - Howard's most ardent supporter, and a member of the Young Liberals. I am exactly the sort of person he wants supporting him - committed both to his Party and his leadership. Howard wont win or lose based around this, but it will definately help him - he is seen as strong on terrorism, Latham is seen as weak on it, advantage John.

What I voiced then is exactly what would have been repeated with glee in every Liberal campaign boardroom across the nation - they might not bring it up in the campaign, but it will help us and we know it.

i already said it would advantage him in some ways, but i don't think that it should be viewed as a good thing. I think that, in view of your statement of how this might be received by those wacky young liberals and the howard campaign in general is an even greater point to why you shouldn't be in power.

i'm sorry i didn't put it quite right the first time: maybe The Right Honourable Mr John Howard does want people of your grounding supporting him, but it still isn't good for his image if you are.

Elections are always fought in the swing seats, (as you know) and a surefire way to lose votes in any electorate is to show little or no regard for human life, if it so suits your political campaign.

[in reference to marce's post, marce who should have been at school if he's well enough to post on the forums all day]

I'm pretty sure that the govt put in place in Iraq was elected by the Iraq people, and was different to the candidate that america wanted.

And yeah, Chechnya was covered in the Discussion forum, that's great. I don't go there for a reason, you know. So let's talk about it here, when it comes up.

And the whole reason for my post was that while I don't know an extraordinary amount about the war, and represent a moderately informed member of the public, I am not prejudiced or assuming about countries involved with terrorism.

Seeing as we are requoting ourselves here:

That's awful, but at least it will help get Johnny 3 more years.

Callous disregard for human life? I think not. I just found that some good could possibly come out of this travesty. It is a little cynical to suggest it so soon after the event, which is why our politicians wont milk it, but its true.
