OK, so lots of people make case mods for their PCs but since I have just recently built a new PC I don't really need that. But my guitar is b0rked and in need of retirement it has seen 2 bands too many and is officially going into retirement today. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> So of course what I do with everything that I retire applies here.

First off, my old guitar, what it looks like BEFORE I tear into it...
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/beforepic1.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/beforepic2.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
As you can see, it has been around the block. Just like my girlfriend... don't tell her I said that. O_o EEP!
Now, the first thing you must note is I know nothing about what makes a guitar work to speak of. Of course I know the bare essentials but the real nuts and bolts elude me. So here is the catchy McCatcherson kids. When creating my new Guitar "Mod" if you can call it that, I will be using as few store-bought pieces as possible. So, stop with the talking and let us open this mad machine up... DUN DUN DUN!!!!
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/toolz.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
<span style='font-size:16pt;line-height:100%'>Uh Oh! Who gave me TOOLS!!!</span>
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/destringed.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Here we see "the beast" destringed and the jack cover taken off. But why lies beneath that pick-guard. (I.E. teh plastic white thing)
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/openguit.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
WoW! Just a friggin hole in the wood there... who woulda known? Not much in there either... still it isn't much but precision is key if I want a good sounding guitar. I'm considering using the pickup switch and wires for my new project, kind of as a way to have the beast live on inside my new custom machine! It looks daunting...
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/wires.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
But I think I can manage!
The pickups will have to go though... sorry guys you suck. I need some new pickups... humbuckers... yeah baby! so say goodbye to my lil friends!!!!!!11
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/pickupsgone.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Well I simply pulled out the soldered wires... I wonder if that was bad... my general theory was that I could simply solder them back on (since I have done that before when wires came off naturally.) Here you see my 3 pickups gone, I now have a nice collection of springs, screws and wires and... stuff.
Well, it is late and this guy has church to go to so this is where our journey ends for now but really this is where our journey is just beginning people!!!
Say tuned for the next update: I'll simply update the front page post uing the handy dandy edit feature!

<span style='font-size:16pt;line-height:100%'>NEW UPDATE: September 6th, 2004</span>
Today I did some hardcore searching on eBay and found some wonderful pieces for my new guitar... the first part I found was this amazing Guitar Body... I shant post the eBay link because I don't want anyone to out-bid me. *devil-horns begin to grow*!
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/newbody2.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/newbody1.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Anyone care to guess what kind of Guitar body that is? Well to say a bit but not too much, it was heavily endorsed by Eddie Van Halen, so I'd be buying a good sturdy body. (As he used it frequently on-stage and in the studio.)
It has a volume knob... and just one pickup... humbucker. The paint is also super cool, the guy selling it said it looks blue sometimes, pink sometimes, red sometimes, purple sometimes and generally couldn't capture the neat effect of it on camera very well at all.
For my humbucker I decided to bid on a set of three gold plated epiphone/Gibson humbucker pickups... this way one of them should fit real god and tight in the body.
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/humbuckers.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
The bridge is going to be a trick. You see this body needs a certain type of bridge to work well... a Floyd Rose Bridge, unfortuanetly these bridges are going for about 60 US Dollars and that is too pricey for me, I'm going to need to fashion something using a normal Tele/Strat style bridge.
And now for the neck.
I didn't want to buy anything brand new but I want a good sturdy neck made out of maple for that nice rich tone. I found the perfect blonde maple neck I've been searching for.
<img src='http://www.riseofpower.net/Guitar%20Mod/newneck.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Perhaps it's the lighting but that bad boy looks HOTT!!!!!!!
UNTIL NEXT TIME... me playing the beast... farewell grand guitar!!!!

FirstAct - WalMart Brand Guitar, looks like a strat, plays like a Gibson. Good guitar for the money actually and this isn't really a Guitar Mod so much as a Guitar Project where I'm building a Guitar from scrap pieces. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I'm just using my old guitar as a "guide" of sorts.

Anyway, this is pretty cool. If I actually had any money, I'd probably try something like this myself. It would be really awesome to have a guitar that's totally unique, not to mention one that I built myself.
