Ps2 Chipping.
<div class="IPBDescription">curiousity</div> ok ill say the legal mumbo to shut up certain parties... this is NOT to encourage the chipping of ps2's it is for my own curiosity into it...
ok so i got a ps2 recently.. and 11 games for like £50... so i was happy...
somebody where i work went 'why not chip it?!' yet he didnt even know what he was saying he just thought you could play more things... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i am a nub at ps2 stuff.... what does chipping do? i know it like halves the life of your ps2.... i think it is illegal to chip it (i.e be the chippee) but not to have a chipped one? im in the uk if that helps with the law bit...
im just curious... as in .. why do people do it? what are the benefits.. although the real reason i ask.. is i saw on nero when i was burning a dvd under type like svcd etc... it had 'playstation 2' and a number of others...
so yeah im a cat.. (curious...)

I was reading it in some Business Journel style magazine.
I can't remember for the life of me what it was called but
its a great free magazine that companies get sent that
specialises in things like Servers and bulk purchasing of
Pc Hardware.
But every now and then they have an article of console
based interesting. (This month it was explaining the "ManHunt"
fiasco that went down. And last month it was games that
get hyped up and then miss their release dates.)
Apparently you can chip your PlayStation2 but it'll void
any warantee's etc. Seeling Mod chips, copying games,
selling copied games = illegal and apparently the fines
and punishments for doing so are increasing.
I'll find out more for you if my boss hasn't thrown the magazine
away.
There are still people that mod PS2s at computer fairs and the like, speak to friends, find if / where they got theirs done.
was it MCV? that often gets sent around it is the kinda home entertainment games mag we get at blockbusters...
so to have it chipped is legal? but the guys i brought the chip off are bad?
and esuna.. i studied electrical engineering... so while im still quite dumb.. i can solder like a mofo <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

roofles
The problem is, games are in the US and the rest of the world. Cut to six months later, we get them in the UK. Importing games is the only way to keep up with the rest of the world with new releases, it's ridiculous the amount of time we have to wait for new games or movies. I've imported DVDs for several years now, in a number of cases even before they've had a UK theatrical release.
