My folks don't have that much trust in me or the local computer store. They do trust the big name.

Well, looking around in the gaming mag. There's some obvious option like Dell and Alienware. But we all know they're overpriced.
Then there're slightly less obvious like ibuypower or hypersonic.
The slightly-less-than-state-of-the-art from ibuypower cost like $1600 at most, while Dell and Alienwhere cost $3000.
But are these lesser-known manufacturers reliable? Anyone got any experience with em?
PS: please refrain from "build it yourself" comment. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> I'm sorry, I can't help myself.
Build your own, or get parts and have someone you know who can do it for you.
If you purchase a computer retail, you're getting ripped off.
As for pre-built, my Dad's obsessed with HP and Compaq (Well, not so much Compaq anymore <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
Anyhow, they both suck, don't buy either. I'm thinking either Dell or Sony, leaning more towards Dell, though. Sony I know builds good TVs and PlayStation 2s, but then...
And my cousin has a Dell, which seems relatively stable.
And, may I repeat, this is for BIG-NAME BRAND COMPUTERS
If you can actually convince your parents to let you build one yourself, go for it.
If it's your own money and computer, and they're not at all helping, build one anyway and tell them it was an accident :X
