Exhaustion

It's fun!
Anyone else get so exhausted that you go into a trance, and feel like you're floating above your own body? I'm feeling that way right now (no, I don't do drugs or alchohol), and it feels weird. I remember feeling this way in kindergarten. When I get this way, I enjoy watching others do work or simple tasks, like sweeping. I just zone out and stare.

It's fun surfing the Web while exhausted too. I like going to computer cleaning websites and reading on the steps to clean out a computer case, or a keyboard, whatnot. I suppose it's just the step by step process that I like.

Man, I'm tired. I'm going to bed.

Well, I'm not quite with the trance stuff (although, I can purposefully blank out in peace staring at strangely bland things, if I want)...but I do enjoy feeling really tired after doing work or exercise. I like when I've done so much work that my forearms or biceps are too tired to contract properly so they're really tight and hard to flex (okay, maybe that description's a bit weird).

I also like the exhaustion after sweat inducing exercise. It leaves you with a sense of purpose and fulfillment, like you did something useful - even if it's something useless like ride a bike 10 miles (or cut the lawn with a pushmower while it's 110 degrees out).

There's also self induced 'butterflies in the stomach' feelings that aren't caused by nervousness. I'm not sure why - but those feel cool too.

Maybe that's all a bit weird...

Well, I don't mean trance entirely, maybe that was the wrong word. When someone stares at something, they begin to focus so much that they forget what is around them. When I'm tired, I zone out so much that I almost begin to fall over! It's just exhaustion, but I do notice myself being able to zone out and stare at something for long periods of time.

Yeah, it's one reason why I enjoy hiking. Exhaustion plus natural beauty equals the trophy.

Meh. I tend to exhaust myself to the edge.

Trust me, when I lie down, I won't be getting up for a day or so. If I did, I'll need MUCH more rest. Quite frankly, I feel a bit exhausted right now ^_^

So yeah, exhaustion is both a good and bad thing.

Last month everyone had leave canceled days so we had to work on our days off.
    It was during some convention.

But either way some people who work days/nights ended up working the other way arounde etc.

I ended up working/staying awake b/c of messed up sleep schedual/overtime shifts etc for 35 hours with 2 hours of real sleep and maybe a quick 15 nap somewhere.

    That wasnt fun. -_- ZZzzzzzzz

    As I said, I don't do drugs. I consider that a drug.

The thing that I hate most about being tired is when it comes upon you suddenly while driving. I often drive for 300+ miles at a time and highway hypnosis can really get you.

    2am driving along.
    Everything's fine.
    Keep driving.
    Car passes you
    another car.
    Stoplight.
    Driving.
    Another car.
    You wake up.

!!!!!! Waking up while still driving is the most jolting feeling in the world. Was it 0.5 seconds, or 5 seconds?

It is really bad when you start getting tired through a constuction area. Driving through cattleshoots with no place to pull over and take a nap. Not fun.

One section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is under construction for 75 miles. Most of it is single lane, and the emergency pulloffs are almost nonexistant. I always make sure I have the windows down and a big bottle of iced tea to keep me awake through there.

edit: I-80 through PA is terrible also. It's about 200 miles of straight nothing.

I get that feeling a lot in work when we are extremely busy (I work in a kitchen in a large four star hotel). Most of time it's when I'm in the pot washing area. I know exactly where everything goes, exactly the best method of cleaning each thing and exactly the best way to go about loading the rather large machine. It's so easy that my mind just drifts away while I'm working away like a madman

I thing being tired and being exhausted constitute different things. Being exhausted generally happens after physical exertion; running, jumping - having a boxing match with yourself...whatever. Tiredness comes from being bored or being awake to long and doesn't really present any pleasurable feelings by itself.

Although, if you run on 3 hours of sleep your body will be pumped so full of a adrenaline...

Only works one night in a row.

This brings up the problem with American highways. They're too straight. Even the Germans back with the Autobahn in the 30's knew that you needed some curves to prevent boredom, so very little is actually perfect straight - unlike the highway system around here. They should throw some cool billboards over the highway that say weird stuff and have blinking lights to keep you awake. Just blatantly crazy things that make you wonder WTH is going on for the next 5 miles 'til you reach the next one.

    "Cows like anal resevoirs....what?"
    "I dunno man, I didn't see it."
"Well, I'm pretty sure that's what it said."
"Are you sure, I don't think they can put anal out there."
    "That's a messed up sign."
"Maybe we'll see it again, when we drive back."
"It was probably canal... Hey what? 'Monkeys enjoy the taste of poop'? "

That would keep everyone awake .

Actually, no. While both are synonyms of each other, tiredness means to grow weary, while exhaustion means to use up. One can be tired without being exhausted, as tired can indicate there is still energy left. When I use the word "exhaustion", I am referring of the point in sleepiness where it goes beyond tiredness to the point of literally fighting the body to stay awake. To the draining of energy where it is used up. Can this happen in a body? No, of course not - one would then be dead, since one cannot literally be drained of all energy and still do simple tasks like breathing. But it does give more of a feeling of lack of energy than the word tired.

There is a sign like that just outside of PSU.

Not the exact sign, but the same words.

(PSU main campus is right next to Rockview. PA's maximum security prison)
