i can't vouch for the authenticity of these pics, but if you google for "free ipod scam," there's quite a few threads vouching for its authenticity. yes, it's a pyramid scheme, yes, it's annoying how people advertise their accts on IRC and whatnot, but if it works, why not try it? has anyone actually recieved an IPod? just curious, i'm sure i can convince a few people to do some of the no-risk offers and grab an Ipod for myself. god knows how useles my 128mb iriver mp3 player is nowadays... :|

It's a scam because the 'no-risk' offers all involve you doing something like spending 30 bucks for a cheap product. If everyone you know spends 30 bucks, (generally they get you to give out 4 emails) and each of those 4 who recieve the email then buy into it and spends at least 30, the company makes at least 150 when the iPod they give out is only 90 bucks max.

And before anyone says "But it's 200 in stores!!". That's because the stores are middlemen who jack up prices. Sold to retailers, it's generally 50 to 60 percent cheaper.

And the end result is that it's not worth the time or effort to get an iPod this way, as there's no guarentee your friends buy something from this site.

You may then say "Oh why don't I just make 4 fake e-mails and send them out..." because you still have to buy and spend anywhere from 30++ on each account to satsify the requirements for the offer and you will end up spending 150 to 250.

End result: Go buy an iPod yourself and save yourself the time.

Yes but you had to do some rediculously cheap purchase, as well as your friends.

You are just lucky your friends felt like wasting some money, otherwise you wouldn't have gotten your 'free' ipod.

The ebay deal requires that you have a high bid on an item at some point. It does not require that you win an item, and therefore pay. You don't have to spend money, way to not pay attention guys.

So the scammers make their money by artifically jacking up the prices on their own items on ebay. And if you win the aution, you end up paying the price anyway.

It is a scam. People are sheep. Baa.

Creep, you're still wrong. You aren't bidding on a particular item. You're bidding on anything. You could bid on a pair of socks from Grandma and you'd still get your free iPod. It is quite possible to get a free iPod out of this without anyone spending any money.

There's an inherent problem with pyramid schemes even if they work. Assume for a moment that you actually get an iPod if you refer 5 people rather than the company high-tailing it after all the easy ways to complete the offers are retracted. At least 80% of the people that try this will just be left out in the cold.

Also, when someone signs on to it, they often become determined to show that they weren't taken in by a scam. They try to argue the vailidity of it just so they can other people to click on their referral thing and get what they think is a free iPod. It spreads literally like a virus, causing more and more people to create "omg free ipod!" topics on every board they can find. I wish the stupid scam would die already.

    3. Used air is 83 times more likely to cause cancer, emphesima, martian flu, hoodlumism.
