... Then why does the steam forums stat page call it "natural-selection"? Or have I misunderstood how it works?

one thing tho. i played it last night on a serv, bout 7 or 8 others....it kinda...well...sucked. i mean, i had my aim dead center on a skulk and the little bastardo didnt die. not only that, alot of other things that made the game convienent to marines and aliens simply wasnt there. quite annoying. biggest being the minimap. god that **** me off to no end. especially since i use it alot, even tho i know nearly all maps off by heart...

No one said 1.04 would be that good, but it has to be better than the current version with overpowered marines, insta-gibbing weapons, ramboes, useless OC's, weak skulks, and flawed res-system.

Notice that they both have their faults.

What about the decreasing performance and lag that got worse the longer a game went on?

That's the trouble with new releases, people only concentrate on the changes they didn't like and forget the others.

Fix that performance problem AND the JPs in 1.04 and then we're talking

There are a few things they should have kept from the old version.

The old spit OC's, in version 3 OC's are about as useful as a blunt knife. The OC's in 1.04 owned!

The parasite marker dot. OMG that looks soo much better in 1.04!

The general dark ambience of the maps, hell the maps were better in 1.04!

The gestate sound effect!

Lazer mines! Ok yes I know they crash servers and are not practical, but I will still miss them.

Apart from that, yeah 1.04 sucked, it was so inbalanced its not even funny, JP's anyone?

Its all hard coded on the Steam side, it comes because the directory name is "ns" and they already added the url and name to their database because of ns2 on steam. It might have been a good idea to change the directory name to "ns104", but anyway its a bit late for that now.

I´ve played NS from the beginning but I probably wont be playing 1.04 again for a number of reasons:

1. The Two Hive Lockdown ; if marines get 2 hives in the beginning...aliens are(pardon my language) ****!

2. MEGA-turrets ; in 1.04 , turrets could be stacked so close togeather that you couldn´t even see the floor , wich means that with no limit to as how close turrets can be built they can pretty much insta-gib everything that comes into view.

3.Annoying res system; with 1 hive an alien can only get 33 res, then 66 and finally 100 with the third hive. The only one who can gather res is the gorge, and thus it is best to have only ONE gorge, wich often ends BADLY when the gorge dosen´t know what to do. Actually the lerk-lifting amx mod abled the alien team to kill the gorge if he wasn´t dooing a good jop , you just pick him up, fly high and drop him.

4.UBER-onoshausen; Onos in 1.04 means defeat for marines in most cases. The onos has lots of hp and an insanely strong armor so....gg marines

5.Turret farming; ,,Old McDonald had a farm..." well thats how it goes, huge turret farms with turrets stacked so close togeather that it is nearly impossible to get past them (see reason no.1)

It´s not that I don´t like NS 1.04 its just that is is not as good a game as NS 4.0a.

p.s ...oh yes and the compleetly useless pheromones, who needs pheromones when you have scent of wall-hack

Oh, just trying to remember as I re-DL, were the PGs in this version activated when you walk on them, or was that a previous version?

Thats the thing though, many performance boosts were due to taking out some of the finer things (imho) of that version.

-laser mines
-blabbers
-high web count
-unlimited(?...or was it just a much higher limit?) chamber/building per area
-prettier maps (ns_hera is quite possibly the saddest example of this..RIP sexy_hera )

Nearly all these things contributed to the legendary "omg-epik" type games. All needed to be removed in the name of performance. Was it a wise decision? Well, probably...but it woulda been nice if we can have our boost and keep these things. :/

How do you get it into steam? Just extract it there or something? (I know about nothing about computers and need to know this). Also can you play it if you have 2.0 installed into steam, or no?
• keep_it_Gangstakeep_it_Gangsta Join Date: 2003-06-23 Member: 17632Members
