I prefer threadromancy to threadplication. At least it avoids repetition, which in almost all cases is pointless except for dramatic effect, which dramatically affects the amusement factor. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

I see a lot of thread replication in the NS2 I&S forum. When I started linking to older topics for people to read I saw a lot more thread replication AND threadromancy. It's a bit of a lose-lose situation.

You basically just said what the original post said. One of the problems with thread necromacy is that people just sort of skip over the earlier posts, since they read them before, long ago. You get duplication a lot more often than you would in a normal, timely thread.

In terms of development (modeling, mapping, artwork and official NS2 development) over at the creation forum and NS2 forums. Threadnecromancy is best imho. As you can use the first post for all the information about updates/news etc...

But those are usually started by 1 or maybe a team of dedicated authors. The problem with NS2 S&I is that everyone can have an idea and everyone can post them (the masses vs a handfull of dedicated moderators). Add this to the fact that people are lazy by nature and rather post their ideas then do a search on them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

S&I is a special case because it has a high turnover rate. You can always count on two or three NSPlayers to comment on an idea(such as hurting an onos while devoured) which gets brought up over and over again. Some of the time it yields new discussion because it's different people, but usually it's a convergent rehash.

True but only if a certain topic of discussion(like thread necromancy) hasn't been brought up ever since the last post about thread necromancy in an old thread dating back years ago.
