Can I complain about getting about 5fps in combat?

Scariest part was when I was playing against the swarms of spiders in Alpha labs sector 2 or 3.. It was the first time i'd seen swarms of them, and really the first time i'd been introduced to them, and they just kept coming and coming.. I worked my way into a corner and it was then that I realised for the first time, that I was going to die...

I reloaded, told my friend to do it, and we still almost died. I think that I could have done better on a second go through... Jump around, spamming them with machine gun and shotgun alternating, then go up the ladder and keep shooting. Maybe even a grenade or two into clusters, and a grenade [if i have time] into the spawm points.

Spider swarms have got to be the most annoying things I've tackled so far. Especially in cramped, crowded rooms... Eurgh. THEY JUST KEEP COMING <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

To me they were just annoying, nothing more. Where's the fun when you see a spider mantrain coming miles away and start blowing them up. They never reach you, they don't even get close, but they just keep on coming and coming and coming.... After 10 spiders I already got the point, after 20 I was wondering if I will ever get to go even an inch forward in this game again, or am I stuck here shooting these damn facehugger ripoffs forever.

Spyders were the weakest enemies in the game

Please choose onr, none, or all of the following:

Spiders should have a) jumped sooner, b) climbed on walls in non-scripted sequences, c) Used their webs to evade being shot and do other cool stuff d) Not wasted your time d) Have been faster than an old granny carrying her shopping basket through the supermarket.

    e) Not existed in the game, or in any other FPS for that matter.

It seems like a generic panel conversation in a development team goes like this:

Dev #1: Well, I've now modelled the small demon, the not-so-small demon, and the bigger-than-your-apartment-block demon. I've still got to get the hand animations of the witch on a hoover right, and the killer klown still lacks a head. Anyway, I just realized that that's not very many enemies we have here. Look guys, I've been going this over and over in my head and I can't come up with anything creative. Anyone else wanna say something?
    Head Dev: Spiders.
    Dev #2: Spiders is good.
    Dev #3: Everybody loves spiders.
Dev #1: Isn't that awfully uncreative? I mean, they are so bo...
    Head Dev: I said <b>spiders</b>.

Wow. Played it for the first time in Micro Center yesterday. One of those $1500 monitors, you know, REALLY big, flatscreen, on a computer nicknamed by random passerby"The Beast". No one else was in line, too so I got to play up until the part where the first portal of hell opens.

    Things I liked:

Upon getting my 1st pistol, I walk through the door and see a civ working at a terminal. Needless to say, I shoot him. The marine who outfitted me says, AT THAT MOMENT, "There are civilians working out there, so don't get excited and shoot 'em." The timing was great. Then, after killing my way to the airlock, I walk outside and enjoy the scenery for a bit. Then I proceed to the next area, where some scientist is trying to send a message to earth. As soon as teh cutscene ends, I paint the walls a new shade of "Cerebral Cortex Grey", using my pistol. At this point, the crap hits the fan and the portal opens. Flaming skull (which made me jump a little) comes out.

Question: Is it supposed to possess the sci?

Yes, he should become one if you dont kill him beforehand, (and hopefully you'll be looking at the monitors and will get it.)

yea lol i was to busy mesmurized by the flying flaming skulls to notice the scientist get it, then i turned around only to see him lunge at me.

Thats when I emptied my hand gun into him regardless of whether he needed all 12 rounds or not. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I always wondered what happend to the still-human guys that you pass by. The one maintenance guy, couple of the lab-techs...

And the chick in her office, crying, that was creepy. I could hear the crying from a good distance, so it had me good and juiced by the time I got there.

Probably the same thing that happened to all the scientists left behind at Black Mesa. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I just started over on Veteran setting so I was being much more cautious.

Near the beginning where you have one marine guy with a gun across the door and to the hallway to the right are 2 more and theres like a little passage back where the first guy is with some armor. Anyway, when you get the armor, one of the fire throwing demon guys leaps out when you turn to leave and I literally jumped.

    Few things:

    - thoz damn voices! (follow me, blah blah blah.) except those about Sarge, I found them funny
    - Where first teleportation subjects taht turned crazy are incarcerated, they are all zombies. But you see one through the window that seems to move normally, maybe he's a scientists that locked himself in there for his own safety. He starts walking to you, he is hiding his face with his arms, and then, when he's at 2 feet from you, he quickly shows his face, white eyes, no lower jaw, eeeew!
    - You walk in a hallway that turns to the right, there's a signle light at the end of it. Then a corpse falls from the ceiling and makes a crap-bugging shadow effect on the wall
    - Theres a map where's there is a glass ceiling, there's monsters crawling on in sometimes, freaking shadow effects again...
    - I walk in a hallway, it is very dark, I hear a noise, I try to use my mousewheel to get the flashlight, it takes too much time, very stressing. I finally get it and there's a zombie right in my face. Since this moment, I have a hotkey for my flashlight <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    - There's a dark corner, I see two yellow lights, I think it is a kind of control panel or something like that so I'm persuaded that there's no monster and go there to search for useful items, there was indeed a monster, the two yellow lights were it's eyes. Damn it scared me when I was what I believed to be a control panel jumping to my face.

    *edit*
Oh yeah, I forgot, in the specimen room, there's a 8-eyed creature in a tank. I knew he was going to do that, but it still freaked me out when it suddenly tried to grab me through the tank glass.

And against those naaaasty zombies, I use the chainsaw. It replaces fear by pleasure <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
