<div class="IPBDescription">Help!!!</div> Eyyo, i have Steam installed on drive D, where my winXP is installed. D:/Program Files/Valve/Steam. For i had some serious problems with HL i had to uninstall and reinstall it. Then i installed the files like you explained above, but the setup doesnt leave any icon to start the game. So its like this: C:\SIERRA\Half-Life and now when i have Steam i cannot run HL, except in software mode. And Steam is D:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\. How to start the NS? Is there any mistakes in installation? Do i have to install HL to D:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\ ? Does exsists file like full readme where installation is fully explained. For in some forums i see that Steam should not be on drive where WinXP is installed, somewhere i saw two types of Steam (one of approx. 200Mb, and one of 761Kb) and so on. Even if nothin thanx for bothering with reading <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You should be installing NS to

C:/program files/valve/steam/steamapps/youremail@youremail.com/half-life

Do note that it'll have that one e-mail in there, whatever you use for login.

ok, full install guide below.

things that you have to do:

Start up steam and play HL atleast once.

Then run the installers.

2) Play HL atleast Once via Steam (just booting up the training mission will do).

3) Download these 3 files:
ns_install_v3_b1.exe
ns_v30_b4_patch.exe
ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe

4) Install NS V3.0 Beta 1 (ns_install_v3_b1.exe) (This should auto install to steam\steamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp, if it does not, move the NSP folder there).

5) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4 (ns_v30_b4_patch.exe) (point this at steam\steamApps\your@email\Half-Life\ do NOT include the NSP).

6) Install NS V3.0 Beta 4a (ns_v30_b4a_patch.exe) (See * at bottom).

7) Search your Hard drive(s) for folders named nsp.

8) If you have more than one you messed up.  Goto Step 3.


If you folow these steps properly you will not get client.dll or map.bsp errors.

If you are positive you have folowed them corectly then redownload the installer form a different location.

*There aslo seems to be a bug with, atleast some of, the 4a installers.  Try pointing it at steamApps\your@email\ instead of steamApps\your@email\half-life

2) Deleate all folders named that.

3) Start from step 3 in my guide.

4) Make sure you are using the properly named files for each step, the file name is listed with the step.

5) Make sure you point each file at the place listed with the step
5a) The first one should auto install with no choice of destination
5b) The second one goes to: Steam\SteamApps\your@email\Half-Life
5c) The 3rd should probably go to Steam\SteamApps\your@email\

6) After each install step in my guide (steps 4, 5 and 6) search your hard drive for nsp
6a) If you find only one folder, and it is located at Steam\SteamApps\your@email\half-life\nsp then you are good to go.
6b) If you have only one nsp but it is some where else, move it to that location.
6c) If you have 2 nsp folders, then move the one that is not in that location, over writing all files when prompted.
6d) Each time you move an nsp folder search your hard drive again for nsp to double check.

Does Half-Life need to be installed before Steam? I have no idea, it's just a random idea. I don't know that the guide will be much help here, Thansal, since he said he was having problems with Half-Life, not just NS.

I think so now that I think about it because I convinced a friend to get NS, and after he did all of the steps perfectly it didn't work ( gotta tell him that now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

No, you install steam first, it wil lthen auto download the latest version of HL for you.

So, "Play Half-Life" includes installing it? I figured that installing HL and playing it were different steps.

in steam it isn't

when you play hl it will auto download and patch HL to the latest version. Technmicaly you don't have to play HL, however, this makes SURE that it is fully patched.
