Trying To Stay Awake For 168 Hours Straight

<div class="IPBDescription">Think I can do it???</div> This is odd, I use to have chronic insomnia, and now I want to stay awake for seven days!

What do you suppose would happen after a while? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Either you'll have insomnia again, or you'll go crazy. Or both.

So far I have logged around 32 hours of straight, no sleep.

It's a lot harder now since I have failed twice before hitting 32. Technically speaking, I logged 87 hours and 6 of which were accidents of sleep, but that doesn't count.

My sister stayed up for a day or so but she had a grand maul seizure just all of a sudden. We can't think of anything that sparked it other than that she didn't get any sleep. It hasn't happened before or sense. Strange....

    Anyway, good luck!

If you do happen to fall asleep on accident, make sure you get some sleep before trying again.

i heard something about this on tv maybe, caffiene can delay the wanting to sleep thing but after a while cant anymore. so its pretty much the old sleep deprivation torture. dont do this unless you win a lot of money or something, or like pain.

i've gone 36 hours, and i can't understand why you'd put yourself through this... to me, it's torture. my entire body starts shuddering at around 24 hours, i fall asleep as soon as i even lie down, and it gets REALLY hard to focus, on anything. well... if you find yourself having some sort of break down, ffs sleep

I read about some guy in the 50's doing it for 10 days. He said he began to see bugs and feel things crawling all over him and he was insane. After day 10 he fell asleep, slept for 18 hours, and woke up fine.

The longest I have stayed up is 36 hours. Staying up all night typing up stuff for class, followed by 10 hours straight of classes, is not very fun. I was actually able to concentrate quite well the whole time. (The last class was a three hour lab on material that I barely understood (not due to lack of sleep), and I didn't have any problems in there.)

You're a pretty big idiot if you're trying to purposely deprive your body of something it needs.

Oh, and 3 1/2 or something days is the longest I went, with a lot of travelling and schoolwork every day. No food, no caffeine, no nothing other than tap water. GG depression induced insomnia. How I ****ing hate thee.
  • kidakida Join Date: 2003-02-20 Member: 13778Members

anyway, dont bother. you'll just screw yourself over. go without sleep for 4 days if you must, sleep for 18 hours, then get 9 hours sleep each night from 10pm to 7am <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> you'll be right

Don't do it. Really, don't do it. It's not worth putting your body under that kind of stress just for the heck of it.

From what I've read/heard you might get braindamage, start hallucinating, almost unable to focus, die.

But why would you try doing something like that for??
  • CommunistWithAGunCommunistWithAGun Local Propaganda Guy Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15953Members
I saw this guy on the learning channel who had a rare disease that prevented him from sleeping. He stayed awake for 2 years until finally dying from brain failure.

I really don't understand sometimes the motives I have that impel me to do certain things of dentriment, and essentially stupid.

If there is a blizzard outside and its -30 degrees celcious with wind chill, I'll go out and ride my bike down a 45 degree angled hill. I want to know and I want to experience - be the snow - and in this case push my mind further in a different way.

I don't necessarily see how it could cause brain damage, so please show me something to prove that; neither will I continue to do this for two weeks much akin to the period of time it would take a rat to die from immune system failure.

Seven days was a goal and I don't necessarily believe I will truly hurt myself in the long term, for others have gone much longer and have turned out sane.

Other than that, I have absolutely nothing to do at my dad's motel which is located in a place where nobody lives. It gets awfully lonely.

Don't know about you guys, but the only thing that I feel is the back of my eyes just hurting really bad after waking a long one. I think it's pretty easy to manage energy for me =\

Teehee, during sleep your body "regenerates" , it restores energy and repairs stuff...

kida: Boredom is the worst thing I can think of, do you have a laptop/pc on your own? If yes, you can do lots of stuff online eh, play games/chat/post stuff on forums...etc
    Just...dont't kill yourself.

Oh and I will search for data that stands for braindamage if you don't get enough sleep.

Hey, thanks for the link there.

Yes. Still trying my little experiement, but hell, I'm assured to fall asleep sooner or later. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Right now I'm writing on a celeron 2.0 laptop. I don't really know the full potential of these things; had to get use to the synaptics touchpad; other than that, I don't really know of any games or more less anything to entertain me then websites to spam around in and more decent forums like this.
