Good riddance. The system sucked ever since Unreal.

Amen. I had a few good times on it, but I've never had a better time on WON than the multitude of moments that I've had on Steam.

Best WON moment? It's a toss up between narrowly winning our clan match by one round in Counterstrike, or when I installed NS the day it came out on October 31st. My months of waiting were over, and it may have been laggy but boy oh boy was it fun. Then I went and ate lots and lots of candy to celebrate.

Steam is bureaucracy while won is.. eh something else... just mean, the logging in and play got longer with steam.. Won is just won, almost invisble because it serves it's god damn purpose of as an authethification system, why the hell do we need steam...

hiding after my team was defeated in ns and building a floor of defensive chambers while the marines hunted for us out side saying WTH.. WTH...WTH.

/edit also in ns being marines and our comm some how getting a chair through a wall and building a base in there(we could shoot through the wall too)

or my first time playing tfc and only being able to be engineer because of a 1000 ping contantly and just nading and building turrets <!--emo&::tsa::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tsa.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tsa.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I remember well the first time I tried Half-Life online. I had a 300MHz PII with a Voodoo1 back then, which I mostly used for playing Action Quake II. One day I decided to give this much praised 'Half-Life' a try, since I'd read a lot of reviews where the writers were practically dazed and stunned (in their words) by the brilliance of the game, to the point of ripping their pants off in excitement and dancing around ritualistically around the game box (well, they didn't actually say that out loud). Also, reviews about this funny-looking new mod called Counter-Strike were very praising, and I figured that I might as well buy a copy since I'd get the Opposing Force add-on free in the deal.

I'd been playing AQ2 on ISDN so I wasn't on a totally crappy connection back then. Hence, my first ever game of CS was a total shock, since my ping was about 200-300 and I kept having absolutely horrible lag attacks all the time. At first I thought that it was my connection until it dawned on me that the problem was, in fact, my craptacular machine that was barely able to run HL single player. What little I managed to see during those spastic few minutes I spent on the server was amazing: Imagine my face when I saw three counter-terrorist operatives run up the nose of a Boeing 747, smash the cockpit windows and complete a flawlessly timed door-opening move; two guys taking positions flanking the door, the third opening it, one guy flashing the other side followed by a full team assault that left two Carlos wannabes down and out of action. Beautiful.

Then imagine my horror when I got a new machine about 6 months later and learned that in CS Beta7 and onward teamplay on public servers was no longer an option.
