60 Fps Max?

I use to play on a dell 1 gig with nvida 5700, 512 mb ram. So I tweaked my config last year to squeak all the bare bones speed I could get out of that machine. Turning down all the settings so it would play well.

Yesterday I got my new Alienware. P4 3.4 EE, 2MB Ex Dual ram, Nvidia 6800 Ultra, 2X 36 gig 10000 rpm Raptors in raid 0. 70 gig 10000 Raptor as a storage drive. I pulled a 3dmark03 score of 12790 and cpu rating of 988.00 fresh out of the box.

I just copied my NSP folder from the Dell to this AW. I jump into my server and pull a solid 60 fps.........?

I changed my max_fps max to 500 and I know about vsync not letting you pull more fps than your refresh rate, which is 85, Multisync 22 inch which came with the AW. So I disabled that in the Nvida settings.

I KNOW I SHOULD BE PULLING MORE THAN 60 FPS!!!

The fps never drop below 60, seemes to jump to 60.1 but pretty much a solid 60 no matter what. It never drops below 60, never. So I'm thinking something I must have changed last in the config while I was on the old Dell is stopping me from pulling more than 60 fps. I've looked and looked but cant see what it is. Any ideas?

My OS is XP Pro

Thanks for any help.

It's stickied on the top of the tech forum.

Even though your referesh rate on your desktop is 85, it resets to 60 when you change to another resolution (ie. starting a gam). Use the tools with your drivers to increase this refresh rate.

If that doesn't help, or if you need more instructions, this site should do the trick.

Thanks Tankefugl and Lighting1. I saw that stuff on the sticky and didnt get past the vsync. It dosnt seem to matter if its enabled or not. By setting the refresh rate to 170 at 1280/960, which is the max safe for my monitor/system, I pull a steady 170. I guess I was to excited to read the whole sticky.

Diablo_fx, its a crt flat screen and I was able to change the fps so maybe your not stuck either!

Thanks for your help guys! I love this community!

uhh, crt is one type, i think they ment lcd, which is a flat (couple of inches) screen. crts are better and can get more fps.

CRT, a standard, bulky monitor with refresh-rates between 60-120 MHz. Cheap today and giving way to...

LCD-TFT. Flat-panel, matrix-screens with refresh-rates between 60-75 MHz. Much sharper even at the lowest rate when compared to CRT.

Just to make it clear. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> It hardly matters if you have 100 FPS when you monitor can show only 75 of them at max, and TFT more than makes for it.

A useful piece of information for future searches perhaps:

OpenGL: 60 fps cap for me
    D3D: any fps I want.
