There is a reason why many micro/quasimicro breweries also make RB (Brookly Brewery makes a good one)
As for the root?
well, actual recepies use Ginger, Birch Bark, and a few other roots and barks(thus why you can also buy Ginger Beer and Birch Beer, all 3 are basicaly the same exept that some omit certain flavorings)

Root Beer, contains the root of the ginger plant as far as i know. As for the beer bit no, idea.

But I still find it amusing that Cola had cocaine in it before. Well, actually, that was 2 years ago when I was fascinated by that fact. But daaaamn.....cocaine in a soft drink?
