George Lucas is gonna accuse that moon of copyright infringement, claim the moon for himself, and then blow it up and replace it with a "digitally remastered" version, aka a pencil drawing on lined paper.
As significant as it may sound, "don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."
Anyone here work for the pentagon? If so try to find a round table, spread the picture over it and put a picture of earth by it, draw a red cone going around the earth and shout.

Pictures are usually not taken in the visible light spectrum. Visible light tells you almost nothing about a celestial body. You can obtain more information in almost every other avenue of the electromagnetic spectrum. Many of the "wow, that's a beautiful picture" photographs are taken in false colors and alternate parts of the electromagnetic spectrum (or just visible light with no blue, or visible light + infrared or something).
However, that's quite distinctly a crater. They're all over the place like that. Take a look at a picture of the moon or Mars and you'll see plenty of craters - circular crater and small nub (comparatively speaking) denoting a crater.
...They're not really photoshopped more...not what you think when you look at it right away.

I know that NASA edit their photos, but I meant "photoshop" the sense that I'm pretty sure that he meant it - that of editing it with photoshop to produce a fake image.

Sigh, classics like Star Wars are lost on this one...
Also, wrong forum?
*sigh* I could only hope.
not much discussion to be had, im afraid. Off-Topic would have a field day with sci-fi references.

Seriously though, that's pretty creepy. Is there an explination for what could cause such a huge and distinctive crater?

Obviousness++; //?

we're all gonna die!
but in all seriousness, that is freaky. just plain freaky.
