Not just any cancer; brain tumours.

He had testicular cancer. He only has one nut now. (which might actually help his riding. I hate bike seats.)

The testicular cancer spread to his brain and he basically started wasting away, I remember reading an article on it. But then he started fighting back; he's a fair legend.

actually i hear it makes it harder because it can throw off your balance. yes it might sound crazy but just a little weight difference can throw off your balance, like losing a thumb or something.

I would think it would hang in the center.
(I don't know if this is really appropriate. I'll let the mods decide on that one.)
Thank God that Armstrong is out of the list of *real* cyclists that have won the Tour de France 5 times. Every single one of those cyclists participated in all the major cycle runs, all year long. Winning the Tour de France is a great achievement and I'll probably never be able to do it myself, but you can't compare him to the 5-time winners or say that he's "better" than them, in my opinion.
/EDIT: and having one testicle is no laughing matter. *Runs away*

Well, he might have two, but one will be a prosthetic. OK, enough ball-talk.

That's like saying Pete Sampres isn't a good tennis player because he won Wimbeldon six times but never played at the Omaha Open. Some people just don't care about smaller tournaments, and Armstrong says nuts to to them. [runs away]

Then again take olympic running.
many runners from kenya and such do a lot better simply becasue they train all year round simply for the Olympics qualifiers and the Olympics. They do not partake in any other events during the year.
Then many US runners who run in every competition/race known to man get to the olympics and are burned out from all other other competitions.
I did ran track for several years and everyone of my coaches told me the same thing.
Compititons throughout the year really do have an impact on your overall preformance in the end.
'
So in Lance Armstrongs case, I really cant blame him.
Thats why hes called the 6x Tour de France champion, not 6x cycling all over the world champion.
