Actually, a comparable rig (only with a 3,6 Ghz processor) running D3 could still not display all settings at 'very high'.

Nice machine, though. The price seems a little high, but seeing that you've got quality manufacturers, that seems justified.

CPU looks fine, make sure you get a socket 939 CPU/mobo...
Case = premod = crap
Dump the audigy, get a different soundcard (Hercules or whatnot)
RAM Looks good
Looks pretty good.

of course it can't infact id told pc gamer who had the first review that you'd need a 500mhz 3d card to run it in ultra-high detail.

Necro, do not, I repeat NOT try to use a Creative Labs card of the SBLive or 'newer' type on an Ath64.

Their windows drivers can't handle ACPI properly, and is causes the system to crash randomly. I've 'fixed' a number of people's machines by slapping them upside the head and telling them to pull out that POS Audigy.

I'd recommend a Turtle Beach 'Santa Cruz' for excellent 3D positional sound (out of two speakers), instead.

My experience with a Santa Cruz card has been absolutely terrible, Talesin. The static-y artifacts, wildly fluctuating sound volumes, and overall poor performance in anything DX 8.1 or newer drove me out of my mind.

Maybe you just got a bad one, Narf. Because Turtle Beach cards are used in mid-high end studio gear, and that DID translate down to the SC. Never heard a problem with one, besides yours, so far.

from what i've heard audigy 2 is the best one out, and i'd be using 5 speakers not 2.

Gotta love the Audigy 2, although if there's a issue with your processor over it then you had better listen to Talesin.

drop the 120 gb drive for 2 80 gb SATA drives and use them to set up a raid 0. It will probably still cost the same but you will get a huge performance increase.

Also, sapphire x800 xt? why not just get the regular, since it's kind of obvious you are sparing no expense...

I'd reccomend a diffrent case to. Buy a nice Lian li or somthing. I don't like Xaser cases or thermaltake much in general. The color coordination and stuff on the new Xasers are atrocious, that checkerboard pattern? What were they thinking?

Did you read the price tag? Fifteen hundred euros is a damn good deal for a high-end PC. It's not what I would get in his shoes (I'm looking for more of a "Bleeding-Edge-Oh-My-God-I-Just-Had-A-Stroke" system), but knowing Necro, you won't be able to change his mind. (Zing! )

Edit: I also mentioned I was looking at Aliens for a time, so I'm imparting very little wisdom with the phrase "what I would do in his shoes."

As noted previously, the Audigy/Audigy 2 is simply an SBLive with about three more connectors on the PCB. It's the same chip at the heart, with a shiny new label and a shiny new box to divest idiots of their money. It does NOTHING (connectors aside) that an SBLive Value! can't.

And yes, they screw up under WinXP on any machine with ACPI installed. And Ath64s require ACPI.

Actually, it's a little above the curve. When my friends or I go shopping for PCs, we usually calculate 1000 to 1200 €.

price doesn't matter THAT much to me, but i do have a limit which i can change as for example if i need more money i can take the stuff off i dont REALLY need like a new monitor.

what soundcards do u suggest?

i like thermaltake never failed me

as for the 3d card, the ati one is 50 cdn more expensive, and as far as i know there's no difference in the actual card.

I think the sapphire cards are cheaper because they are slower. Or atleast that's what I remember...

where did this "X800" series card come from anyway? did ATI just pop it out out of the blue? because the last thing I remember is everyone raving about the 9800 XT... is this X800 tons better than the 9800's? all I can say is that I'm glad that, when I bought my computer last fall, I went the thrifty way and just got a 9600 pro instead of getting a 9800 which I'd have spent more money on and would have to replace soon anyway...
• NecroNecro <insert non-birthday-related title here> Join Date: 2002-08-09 Member: 1118Members
the x800pro is about TWICE as fast as the 9800xt's and the x800xt is the pro except has all 16(i think it was) pipelines active while the pro only has half that.
