if you must apologize for your sig, a pm would probably be best. i wouldnt worry about it though, lots of sigs get "fixed" and if everyone sent in apologies it would clutter up the mods inboxes probably
and to your edit: i would guess now, because then people could make one big picture out of a few small ones.
What's with pictures anyway? It's not like everybody looks at them, staring - dumbfounded - going "Doih...must worship owner of signature!"
I prefer the moderately funny text sigs myself; sure you only bother to read them once, but they can be good. I don't get the putting your name in a sig picture either, because if I wanted someone's name I can look to the left and -SHAZAAM, there it is.
Maybe it's an attempt at one of those e-**** compensation things, like big post counts, and big thrifty avatars and big socks.
...maybe not that last one. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Haha, my sig used to be 234 x 76 and Talesin took it off even though his sig has 12216 more pixels than mine had. It seemed like he had nothing better to do at the time. It was only 1 pixel over, I didn't know all it made me do was spend a couple mins resizing it. Wasn't really worth it but whatever floats your boat admins.
