Nope, when VAC is implemented into NS, really no reason why your well-deserved punishment would end.

Heard it's 5 years. Some servers won't have vac anti cheat so you can still play on them but mostly 5% servers but thats still alot.

Move to a new country, get a sex change, and change your IP Address. They'll never know it was you.

Jerk.

Bingo. VAC is VAC is VAC. The whole point of it is to ban people like you, who cheat. And keep them banned, so they don't have the chance to cheat again. If you're so desperate to play, guess you should have thought of that before ruining everyone elses game.

And as for people being this stupid... look at I&S.

Or it could just be valve's clever effort to get people to buy even MORE copies of half life...

its a smart business move. You cheat and still want to play? buy the game again.

People will still continue to cheat and get caught, and get new cheap CD keys, not a bad racket at all.

If I'm not mistaken, VAC bans last two years, but all that is really banned is the SteamID, which is derived from the HL CD key. Therefor, all you need to be technically unbanned (from the mass of HL, your IP might still be on the UA list) is a new CD key, in other words, a new copy of HL, which will cost you about 10$.

I find that statement ironic given your past, Ness.

Seems to support the idea of giving people second chances.

As previously stated.. VAC is VAC. when finally implimented into NS, you will be banned from all NS servers that choose to run VAC, simply because VAC banned you. There is no forgiveness in an automated anti-cheat system such as VAC, it wouldn't change its mind just because some other mod starts using it...
It won't look the other way while you play NS and it won't care if you, well.. post poorly written forum posts here.

I think this thread's gone far enough.

I've found two sources that say a VAC ban lasts one year or that it varies depending on the offense and can be as long as five years. According to a third source, a first offense results in a one-day ban (with one exception that was not named).

Regardless of how long your ban is, when you are banned the date of your unbanning appears in your console ("You have been banned until 10 July 2009", e.g.). I imagine that if you didn't bother to read the message VAC sent you, you can contact Valve and ask them.

VAC "claims" can be made here, but it should be noted that "[u]nder no circumstances will [Valve] unban an account that was detected cheating. Even if someone else was using your account when the cheating took place, you are responsible for ensuring that your account is used in accordance with Valve's anti-cheating policies."

In short, you're pretty much screwed and it's pretty much your fault. Your best bet is to buy a new copy of Half-Life... and don't cheat next time.

I'm closing this topic before it gets any hotter.
