Oh yes, bad us, how silly of us to not consider the onos rush, at least aliens can escape MS now, it's a freaking deathtrap right now, you've got that rotating door which the comm can operate to crush higher lifeforms or stop their escape and then you've got the lift which you have to jump down and if the comm is clever, he'll just close the door at the bottom and you're trapped.
Seriously, come back when you have a clue, it's people like you who ruin it for the others, the people who appreicate the effort we've put into making bast a good, fun, playable map. Please direct your hate mail for lack of updates to decent updates to bast after b5 to gigabyte.

One problem with removing the rotating door is it removes a part of the interactivity in the map. With less things to interact with (and less atmosphere), the map is closer to being just classes fighting other classes, like a co_ map.
I remember when I first played bast, it was a good part of pushing the marines to work as a team. You go through the door as one marine, and you'll always die to a single skulk hanging around the edge, but with a few more, you can break through, get main aft, and go from there. (Though most of the time everyone just wanted to go to atmos and turret farm.)
I don't have any solutions, but I think if the rotating door could be debugged somehow, it'd be essential in keeping bast what it is. :/
wow what a flame war, and relic hasnt even seen your progress so you dont know if its TEH UBER LEETZOR or whatever... besides i'm not going to run it on public server so it wont see the light of day by any of the outsiders. well if you dont believe i can do it goto the ns_fenris team thread and look at the cargo hive c it took less than 5 hrs to do that. so dont question my decompiling skills. you need to get more input from outsiders before you hax up a good map anyways. i think that a map that is made shouldnt be uber changed unless it has some serious bugs in it just let it be and move on to other maps. mendasp you just dont like your work being rejected do you? aww too bad... because some like it and some hate it and i dont like it so get over it. that map looks really unbalanced anyways a direct path to the engine room hive... wow and removing the elevator was a bad idea too it makes the map way too open and ms for a onos/fade rush. most ns maps i see are series of rooms and winding halls making it prove difficult for either side to get somewhere which is a good thing the new ns_bast seems to be moving toward a fun type map not a serious game like it used to be...

read the previous page idiot im replying to mendasps flame so dont go poking your nose in buisness that isnt yours. and yes decompiling is easy but replicating the brushwork isnt the easy part, sometimes you have to reconstruct what was lost in the compile. its time consuming with the complex maps, and it can be easy on the less complex ones (ns_siege007). im just saying i dont like it, and JUST saying that relic hasnt looked at it yet from what i have heard, im not saying stuff on behalf of him.

Mendasp: Ignore the people that are either too ignorant and stuck on the past ("OMG BRING BACK 1.04 BAST OMG TEH ROTATING DOOR SI GON!!!!111") or stuck on themselves ("I could just <insert mapping term here> and remake <insert version here> myself") or plain out stupid to realize that the current bast has <i>issues</i>. Ok, how about this. Since the title of this thread is "Ns_bast For Beta 5" why don't we talk about that? Take all the personal attacks and send 'em through pms. I don't care who thinks they could do what better or whatever. The facts here are these:
1) ns_bast has already been remade. It's a long process, and one that will only be officially endorsed by flayra ONCE. Additional remakes won't be endorsed by flayra, and have no purpose in the thread for the OFFICIAL ns_bast remake.
2) Mendasp, if he isn't doing nearly all the work at this point, is the frontman for the team that is rebalancing ns_bast. Again, word came from the top that bast needed rebalancing, and Mendasp & Crew were the ones chosen. No point arguing, this is already set.
So, given that, why not try and help. If you don't like the changes, say why. Be detailed, be helpful, be persuasive, but don't be rude. All that being rude here will do is make sure that anyone else who clearly and pleasantly presents your point of view will not be heard, much less have their advice considered. Accordingly, your opinion WILL NOT BE INCLUDED. Understand the negative effect rudeness will have on successfully implementing your ideas into bast from this point on.
As a side note, it is possible to change the bast remake team's minds. It has happened. They do listen to well spoken feedback. Many of the changes that have been made already are the result of previous playtests, and the responses therein. All that said, keep it calm, keep it civil, keep it in pms.

gigabyte: are you in a clan? if yes, try to set up a scrim... and play bast. you will propably notice some... issues, regarding the map's balance. <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><b>BALANCE, FOR GODS SAKE.</b></span> even the most visually stunning map is **** if it plays like ****. now, don't you dare come here, or anywhere for that matter and say that the old bast was fine as it was. IT WAS NOT.

ps: about the actual map: a few problems i can think of: first of all, the walk to atmos is horribly short. i suggest either stacking something between there, or removing one of the nodes from atmos and replacing it somewhere. perhaps to tram tunnel, in the centre of it. by carving a portion of the wall into a umm.. what's the word now? anyway, same way as in water treatment, except a little deeper. remember, this is just a suggestion =)
also, i'd like to know the time it takes to walk from ms to engine.
Last time we checked it was... 21 seconds, there's a always opened door in the path to engine, so turning it into a functional door would make the path "longer".

Look, I like to work on <b>my own maps</b>, I started the bast remake team for bringing back this map, and after that, fixing all the problems, maybe you don't realize the revolving door was <b>annoying</b> and HL doesn't work pretty well on multiplayer with the rotating entities, right? It was a big problem for the marines, because it made the base a deathtrap and it just made the endgame loooooonger.
The map needed changes, big ones. It had very big problems, how can you say it was fine? Have you ever played this map? I'm not talking about competitive play, in pub games it can be <b>more annoying</b>. Do you realize that what you're doing is hijacking this thread? "I'M GOING TO DECOMPILE BAST AND REMAKE IT MYSELF" well, we don't give a **** about that...
Oh, and I don't care about my work being rejected, in fact, I say that two of my maps were crap (ns_phobia / co_phobia). These changes were needed, you need to get out your nostalgic crap and start looking at it as what it is, a official map that has always needed changes. The main problem is that the map hasn't changed for a long time.
And please, tell me how is this turning into a fun map? I don't see the hollow boxes with horrible texturing and 10000 res nodes in the same room. Oh excuse me, Mr. Balance, you could do a much better job than me by... well, leaving the map as it was.
It's ironic that this game is called Natural Selection and the players can't adapt to a few changes.
I was basically posting the changes for beta 5 in bast until some random people started talking about how much I suck and how I killed bast (DM was probably joking because we made that joke in #nsmapping all the time, notice the smiley). And THE ADMINS HAVE TO TALK WITH <b>ME</b>? I've been a bit harsh, but man, I just can't stand this kind of comments anymore, it's so fun that suddenly everyone knows how to balance the map and when we were asking for balancing suggestions noone told me anything... But hey! whatever you want to see!
This is pretty much the first thing closest to a flame I post around here.
PS: Most of the changes were done by me, MrBen helped me by deleting the revolving door (technically it's making it unusable, but you get the idea...), making the new area outside the MS and he's going to add a vent from feedwater to tram tunnel... and Insane made the vents in engine.

i just belive that there should be a bast2 - though for those of u that want clasic bast, rename the bsp before u install beta 5

1) ns_bast has already been remade. It's a long process, and one that will only be officially endorsed by flayra ONCE. Additional remakes won't be endorsed by flayra, and have no purpose in the thread for the OFFICIAL ns_bast remake.
2) Mendasp, if he isn't doing nearly all the work at this point, is the frontman for the team that is rebalancing ns_bast. Again, word came from the top that bast needed rebalancing, and Mendasp & Crew were the ones chosen. No point arguing, this is already set.
So, given that, why not try and help. If you don't like the changes, say why. Be detailed, be helpful, be persuasive, but don't be rude. All that being rude here will do is make sure that anyone else who clearly and pleasantly presents your point of view will not be heard, much less have their advice considered. Accordingly, your opinion WILL NOT BE INCLUDED. Understand the negative effect rudeness will have on successfully implementing your ideas into bast from this point on.
As a side note, it is possible to change the bast remake team's minds. It has happened. They do listen to well spoken feedback. Many of the changes that have been made already are the result of previous playtests, and the responses therein. All that said, keep it calm, keep it civil, keep it in pms.

I played ns_bast today and I DID gib on the door, endgame, just when a onos was chasing me out of MS I ran into the door as it was rotating, and gibbed
'nuff said.
ps: about the actual map: a few problems i can think of: first of all, the walk to atmos is horribly short. i suggest either stacking something between there, or removing one of the nodes from atmos and replacing it somewhere. perhaps to tram tunnel, in the centre of it. by carving a portion of the wall into a umm.. what's the word now? anyway, same way as in water treatment, except a little deeper. remember, this is just a suggestion =)
also, i'd like to know the time it takes to walk from ms to engine.
It's you that's taking things far by coming right out with your tirade of flames. I'd suggest that you calm down and try and express your opinions without trying to be insulting or starting flames.
Incidentally, there's no point in telling people to "but out" in a public thread. By posting your opinon in public, you make it everyone's business.
Bit sad to see the area around engine changing. I loved that area with all its vents but its looking good and will definatly improve the game play.

We'll be sending Relic the BSP if he wants to, if he thinks we did something wrong, we'll change it, after all, it's still his map. If Flayra doesn't like the changes, well, he probably will point out what he didn't like, so we can change/fix it. Look, I like to work on <b>my own maps</b>, I started the bast remake team for bringing back this map, and after that, fixing all the problems, maybe you don't realize the revolving door was <b>annoying</b> and HL doesn't work pretty well on multiplayer with the rotating entities, right? It was a big problem for the marines, because it made the base a deathtrap and it just made the endgame loooooonger.
The map needed changes, big ones. It had very big problems, how can you say it was fine? Have you ever played this map? I'm not talking about competitive play, in pub games it can be <b>more annoying</b>. Do you realize that what you're doing is hijacking this thread? "I'M GOING TO DECOMPILE BAST AND REMAKE IT MYSELF" well, we don't give a **** about that...
Oh, and I don't care about my work being rejected, in fact, I say that two of my maps were crap (ns_phobia / co_phobia). These changes were needed, you need to get out your nostalgic crap and start looking at it as what it is, a official map that has always needed changes. The main problem is that the map hasn't changed for a long time.
And please, tell me how is this turning into a fun map? I don't see the hollow boxes with horrible texturing and 10000 res nodes in the same room. Oh excuse me, Mr. Balance, you could do a much better job than me by... well, leaving the map as it was.
It's ironic that this game is called Natural Selection and the players can't adapt to a few changes.
I was basically posting the changes for beta 5 in bast until some random people started talking about how much I suck and how I killed bast (DM was probably joking because we made that joke in #nsmapping all the time, notice the smiley). And THE ADMINS HAVE TO TALK WITH <b>ME</b>? I've been a bit harsh, but man, I just can't stand this kind of comments anymore, it's so fun that suddenly everyone knows how to balance the map and when we were asking for balancing suggestions noone told me anything... But hey! whatever you want to see!
This is pretty much the first thing closest to a flame I post around here.
PS: Most of the changes were done by me, MrBen helped me by deleting the revolving door (technically it's making it unusable, but you get the idea...), making the new area outside the MS and he's going to add a vent from feedwater to tram tunnel... and Insane made the vents in engine.
Acting like clowns, raping the English Language with all their bent abbrieviations and generally whining with no real arguement or reason. It's seriously depressing and I wish they would f-off and leave the good folks , who can be reasonable and who have social skills beyond that of an amoeba, to get on with an enjoyable and respectable community.
PS: Previous sarcastic jibes aside, you know I appreciate the work done on Bast by all involved. Great job.
