    All the more reason to wipe away.
    Reinstall windows without having it plugged into the internet (if you're using broadband)
    Make sure you turn on the internet connection firewall (or you'll get nailed with blaster/sasser in 10 seconds), then run windows updates.
    Afterwards install firefox.
    You've just eliminated 99% of the possible ways that got your computer screwed in the first place.

    The damage done might not dissappear after the virii are gone, try to find the old XP cd. A reinstall often does wonders, doesn't fry any unrelated saved data, and usually doesn't screw up any programs (at least not to the point that it becomes a hassle to fix).
