<div class="IPBDescription">I'm Exhausted, Please Help Me!</div> OK, so first and foremost, <b> YES, </b>I have run Spybot and AdAware 3 times, I have run three anti-virus programs with up-to-date definitions numerous times. And I still get SLOOOOOW performance on a normal boot. Right now, I'm in Safe Mode with Networking and everything is working just fine but whenever I go to normal boot it either freezes or runs so slow that I consider suicide.
I get no errors of any kind, I have run ScanDisk on all my drives, checking for errors etc. and still the slowness remains. Someone please, I shall give you multiple cookies, what should I do?
Computer Specs
Microsoft Windows XP: SP1
Motherboard: Gigabyte, Up-to-Date BIOS
Memory: Two Sticks of 512 MB Mushkin RAM
HDD 120 GB 7200RPM Western Digital - Internal
Video Card: Radeon 9700 Pro All-In-Wonder
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum 2.1 Set-up
Anything else you need, I shall supply...
EDIT: Oh ****, I can't get into MSCONFIG it tells me it's been restricted by the "Computer Administrator" which should be me... that doesn't sound good... have I been haxed?!?!
EDIT #2: Ok, so I try and get into my startup folder in C:Documents and Setings\mylogon\local settings\start up and my comp crashes in safe mode, WTH. This is not looking good...
EDIT #3: I can't get into hardly any Control Panel Dialogs, User Accounts, etc... *sigh* I need teh helpz0rz, please!

Good luck. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If you didn't, try that and see if you can get in the controll pannel. When was the last time you reformatted?

I'll see if that helps the slowness... BRB

Nope. Didn't help.
~ DarkATi
Go to the start button... it is down to your left
Go to run
type msconfig
Select diagnostic startup...
Reboot computer
Check to see how slow it is.

Erk. I meant don't let who ever is doing bad stuff to your computer have access. Keeping it off the web will hopefully keep it from getting worse. Plus, if you have a virus, it's best not to let it infect other people through your internet connection. Just use the forums on a different computer if possible, and keep that one locked down.

My comp is the only one in my house with internet... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If your C: drive is formatted as FAT32, boot off a DOS floppy and remove those startup entries?

Good question, task manager will not open to let me find out. But my HDD light doesn't blink / crunch like mad, so probably CPU.
EDIT: Group Policy Dialog Crashes every time. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yes and then I lose ALL MY DATA... I'd rather not do that...
As for that prog, yes it works fine but my comp freezes after about 10 seconds, from what I could see nothing but System Idle Process was using more than 5 percent CPU Power. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Just boot it in frickin' safe mode and back it up... consider your computer problems a lesson in partitioning drives.
No, but I store some on my C Drive, I fail to see how that makes me a nubtart. I have 5 partitions, their isn't much on my C Drive but enough to warrant too much hassle if their is a solution readily available for whatever I have.
I should have said, "Then I lose ALL MY DATA ON C Drive" but I thought it was clear enough. I hate reformats, too much hassle for my taste...

OK, so let's say I do this, I have programs that have data saved somewhere in their directory structure, like my homeschooling course. All my grades saved and everything. If I just copy that folder can you ensure me the safe return of my grades? If you can then I guess I'll go for it...

I prefer the total wipe since it's like giving your system an enema. All the clogged up **** is absolutely guarenteed to get flushed out.
Just reinstalling XP will probably do the same thing performance-wise. Since it loses the registry, any hidden viruses or something will usually not work, but any nasty or garbage files on the system will still be there.
Either way, I'd back up important files and dump them on another drive temp just in case...

Well, I can't find my XP CD so now I'm really up a creek... oh man, these are the days I wish I'd never woken up, just kept on sleepin'...
