I played the demo of Ground Control (I think I did anyway : P) and it was pretty good. May have to check this out.

Also, I'm so happy that topics to do with gamespy have gone from 'GAMESPY TITLE FIGHTS!' to gamespy looking at a game.

Check out my review of the demo at Frag Files! And then like, buy me a new 3d card. I could use a new 3d card.

Is the first Ground Control worth buying? I liked the demo but never played the full game.

The original Ground control is one of my top ten favourite games of all time. Buy it now (only around £5 and includes the expansion pack)

raz0r - ... wth? You have to think about what your doing instead of just going "RAWR" and rushing. All games are "point and clicky"...

ok, it's less point and clicky than some games, but in the demo, all i had to do was send the troops to attack, chaing the attack mode when they were close enough, watching the carnage, then moving on.
i was playing it on 'easy' though

i'm sure the full game requires more skill/tactics.

i still prefer Total Annihilation though.

What kills me is that I saw the original, alone, for $3 bucks about a year ago and didn't buy it

If I kill him, then I take his place, right?

Played the demo, and it runs at around 25-30 fps on my comp. D: Anyway, I enjoyed it. Far superor to Besieged or Besieger or whatever.

I too am a Beta tester. And don't get too excited folks- if this thing is even gonna be a half-assed game, it needs balancing work.

I can't say anything else because of the NDA, but it is SERIOUSLY unbalanced in SP and MP.

It's like Deus Ex I and Deus Ex: Invisible War: the sequel ruined it all.

Seriously, I see in both games a case of user-interface-dumbification. In the first Ground Control, the camera view was truly cinematic; minimal HUD, and an awesome, expansive landscape. Comapre that with GC2 which looks like C&C Generals on steroids (with resulting testicular shrinkage). Deus Ex was also probably my all-time favorite retail game FPS (notice, NS is a mod ), but in Deus Ex 2, by introducing that crap HUD and dumbing down the game, it became worthless IMHO. So even though GC1 and Deus Ex 1 are graphically inferior, I think they're better games.

That's really a shame. I enjoyed Ground Control a lot. I loved moving the camera right down to the ground and watching tanks, troops, hovering things, bombers and fighters attacking. The special weapons had some really nice effects. I won't play this one yet.

You can still do that. GC2 has all the same camera stuff as the first one, but with better graphics. Plus it's got some urban environments now, you can send infantry into buildings and have them fire out. It's great. The HUD is bigger and it's got a form of resources now that you use to gain more units instead of just having what you got at the beginning of the mission, but it's still a wonderful game.
