It certainly is much harder to gain respect as a "good commander" than it is to be seen as a "good player". Racking up 10 kills with 0 deaths is good by anyone's views. Building no defence in MS for the first 6 minutes may look good to some and not to others.

And it does not take long for those others to voice their opinion. Strange how they seem reluctant to take over when offered though. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Wouldn't it be awesome if people like this had their own identifiable servers? We could even give them their own icon, something like a pointy cone hat. rofl. If you're going to pick up a hobby, try to put some effort into it, instead of just feigning disinterest and apathy to cover for your sloppy and failed attempts at competence.

Anyway the original question was what to do to deal with idiots, griefers, twits and fools. I just go down with the sinking ship and try to follow a gameplan despite everything being doomed, maybe look for another server (never), or go back to playing CZ. You know it's actually quite a nice game. Basically CS deluxe edition, new skins and everything and it is so beautiful. <3 I play it more than NS at this point, coincidentally because of the same problems this topic was intending to address.

Swift: I've no problem with people who want competitive play. The thing is, we aren't all trying to play tournaments. I actually would like to get into a tournament someday, but right now, nobody's signed me on. And that's fine. I actually like pubbing, most of the time. The main thing I don't like seeing is spawncamping where less than an eighth of the server holds off the entire opposition. That makes it boring for everybody who isn't doing that, and it turns the game into their own personal Combat. NS is supposed to be about <i>tactical</i> competition, not who's better at The CS Twitch.™ Dirty pool like that is fine in tournament play, if you can manage to do it. But you just don't <i>do</i> that on a pub, where not everybody has your 1337 5k1||z.

Yes, the game is plagued with some idiots. In fact, when I dropped a phase outside cargo, and we phased through and took it, they started saying "Comm, we need to drop it IN cargo, not outside of it!" And you know what? The phase was a mere 4 feet from cargo, and then they ejected me out of the chair for not placing a phase gate INSIDE cargo, instead of a few feet out of it. Why waste res when you can just walk a table length to cargo? Jackasses...

I have to say I am one of those people who plays the game as a hobby. I've never played a pug, and never joined a clan (invited to try out, never accepted). However, I expect the people who I play with to at least have an average understanding of what everything does in the game, and basic strats. I have to say that there are a LOT of people playing NS_ maps who have never even touched the manual. I told one guy who had just downloaded and installed NS (first time ever, he was saying "WHEE AWW SO COOL" when he went through the pg) to go read the manual online, and I gave him the site, and you know what he said?
"Eh, that's not fun." To which I replied, "And being heckled for being a N00b is?"

I've had to delete a couple of servers out of my favorites cause of this new wave of people who refuse to read the manual...

Pubbing is not so much different from pugging as you might be inclined to believe. The major difference is that where pubs are filled with idiots, pugs are filled with smarter idiots.
