Geforce 4 Ti 4600

piece of s**t
Okay I bought my Ti 4600 almost a year ago and I can finally say that I'm fed up with it. It cost me 200 dollars, and I've had to send it back twice now because of it breaking.

Oh yeah, and I just recently bought an ATI 9200 for only $50 dollars and my benchmarks are A LOT better and the performance is by far a lot better. This was my first Nvidia card, and it will definitely be my last.

Okay well here's what I'm wondering. WTH should I do with it? I've thought of selling it on ebay, but thats the last thing I'd want to do. Do any computer sites take in refurbished parts and maybe trade something else with me? I just don't want my 200 dollars to go down the drain, even though it pretty much already has....

Heh, lucky for me I bought my geforce 4 for 20 bucks. Was at least an upgrade from my tnt2.

Why don't you try a local comp shop?

I'd sell it for $50 at the lowest......but i'd want like $70 so that I could just buy another ATi 9200 for my other comp.

    I seriously hate nvidia.

I've had a geforce 4 4600 for a while, never had any problems and can even run games like far cry on a highest settings.

Don't know I guess you got a bunk card, but I love mine. All I can recomend is to get some patches for it.

I hate nvidia too... their semi-new cards would cheat on benchmarks by using DX8 and DX9, instead of just DX9, just to "outperform" ATI. And besides, Radeons come with HL2. The only thing I like about nvidia is their Linux support. They release open source drivers that work REALLY well, while ATI's are kinda iffy and closed source.

Anyway my first real gaming vid card was a ti4200 with 8x and 128DDR...still using it today. never given me problems. Lesson learned? Don't judge a vendor by 1 video card.

Same here. Got mine the first week it was out; still using it now, and it works great.

Is it possible that the hugely differing opinions of NVidia cards is due to the fact that different people are using cards made by different manufacturers?
  • dr_ddr_d Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14979Members
Or by the fact that some people don't take advantage of the abundent support Nvidia gives to its products? Some patches can increase proformance on a card two fold.

From what I hear from ATi users sometimes they don't even bother giving support for a whole series, but hey the bench higher on release right?

DirectX is totally backwards combatable. This is the reason you can play games made in the DirectX 2 days with DX9. To say a card uses DX8 AND DX9 is redudant. Any card that uses DX9 also uses DX8.
  • Dorian_GrayDorian_Gray Join Date: 2004-02-15 Member: 26581Members, Constellation
They used ONLY DX8 for some features, and didn't bother implementing DX9 on those features. But I think they fixed that now... For HL, I actually prefer NVidia, but for 99% of other games ATI is better IMO.

    Drivers: Nvidia beats ATI
Performance: ATI wins by a tiny bit on most games IMO

Oh, and I hate NVidia because they come out with new cards that look sweet and are too big to fit in my comp (physically to big). But then ATI comes out with something a bit better, so life is once again good.

Heh that little thing rules. Basically each card has its upside and downside. Its all personal preference.

Don't blame NVIDIA blame the manufacturer of the card tbh.

My first Geforce 4 Ti4200 was made by PNY (french company nuff said) and it blew up after 5 months. It took a lot of hassle getting a refund of the **** but I eventualy did and went a bought a G4 Ti4800 made by ASUS and it's still running after a year with no problems.

Yeah.. it really depends on which company you decide to buy the card from. If they suck at making it well.. then you won't have much luck with them. I like my geforce fx, I upgraded from the 4600 a little while ago. I dont' think I've had any problems, except one time where xp wanted to delete my video drivers and I had to reinstall, lol GO XP!!!

If you get a "newer" Radeon card (9700+), beware of issues with HL. Not everyone has them, but Shockwave and I both do, and I'm pretty sure it's a common problem.

My brother has a PNY and it works wonders. Then again I do live in France...

I personally have an ABit and it also works well.

That's odd, I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 made by the now-defunct VisionTek, and it runs very well. In fact, even new games run at decent speeds on my card.

My friend has a Radeon 9800 Pro and it's broken 3 times in the 2 months he's had it. Strange.

I had an MX (don't want to hear it) made by PNY a while back. It broke shortly after. Got it replaced. Broke again.
So naturally, I'm avoiding PNY like the plague now.

Well, any suggestions what I should do with it?
  • CyndaneCyndane Join Date: 2003-11-15 Member: 22913Members
Well there is always the preverbial throw it out the window...

I would suggest a more creative way to destroy it or... sell it to an idiot :-)

Assuming it is bad lol :-)

    I have a PNY Geforce 4 Ti 4600.

Throw it at Nemesis Zero tbh

So does that mean I have no chance at selling it, since no one seems to be recommending any place?

I'd buy it and pay via mail order. 50 bucks with shipping?
