<div class="IPBDescription">Ideas?</div> I know we currently have the Fronteirsmen's Manual set up as an HTML, with tibits of information and such, and only updated by the admin. However, I have an interesting idea for you.
This sort of thing was inspired by the folks at Hard Light Productions and the Wikipedia. As we all know, a Wiki is set up where public users can add, modify, or possibly remove information on a rather public page. Now, on the HTML file I've noticed I cant access ALL the link. I have to click on a link, find out where that "hidden" link is found and then click that, so then I am brought to the link. In a Wiki, we can have all NS data, damage, history, explanations, so on and so fourth, able to be modified or added by players. Let me give you an example of the Wiki for the game "Freespace 2"
<a href='http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/fsdoc/' target='_blank'>http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/fsdoc/</a>
I just want you guys to think about this sort of thing for a minute and wonder if it could actually be a possibility.

Wikis are damn good things (there's even an Homestar one at <a href='http://www.hrwiki.org' target='_blank'>http://www.hrwiki.org</a>)
Anyway, I need to get in contact with a guy called Sandwich who can help me set up a PHP Wiki. With someone high-ups permission, and possible info assistance, I think I should be able to get it started.
In a game this complex, there is simply too <u>much</u> information for one person/group to catalogue it all. Which is why a community-written manual would absolutely rock! I'm surprised it hasn't been thought of before. Unless it has....please say you used search. I'd hate for this thread to end as "Suggested Before". <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
1st) that essentially makes the work the NSGuides are doing at the moment completely useless...
they are in the middle (i say middle, i don't know for sure how far they've got so far) of writing a new guide - doing this would essentially render their work so far pointless - not some thing i imagine they'd appreciate
2nd) there is one fundamental flaw with WiKi's, unless my understanding is incorrect, in which case please ignore this - what is stopping some of the moronic idiots (of which there are quite a lot in all online gaming communities) coming on and screwing the entire thing over...
it's a fine idea, and i doubt any one would actually object to it being made, but it would make more sense to coordinate it with some thing like the guides program...
A Lovely little thing called administration.

and backups lot and lots of backups
like i said, i don't think any one would object, but it would seem silly to start putting time and resources into that when the guides project is just starting back up again
