DK1 was good, and DK2 was better. In DK1 you could level your demonspawn above level 10 and get a level 4 dragon in the process... taking an aditional 3 (tacked onto the one) lair tiles. On top of that dragons slowly gain exp if they're near a lava tile. Absolutely loved the fact that they were immune to lava as well... Summoning Horny was a pain in the a... well, you know. to get him you had to drop 1 Bile Demon, 1 Mistress, and 1 Warlock into a temple's pool, and you had to give Horny EVERYTHING of his own and sort of just build his own little world for him (3x3 hatchery, lair, training room, and treasury w/ piles of gold) otherwise he'd go psyco and kill all your other creatures... but especially your dungeon heart... then the enemies. taking only 1 damage in the process. Ahh, good times.
Too bad EA shut nearly everything down, including anything done on DK3...
BTW, if you want AI in multiplayer games on DK1, put the command -1player in the command line. so it'd be like "dk1.exe -1player" which would let you play the multiplayer maps against a (crappy) AI opponent(s) Still fun to bash their skulks in, though.

Soundtrack was my purpose for buying Quake II in the first place.
FFVII had an awesome soundtrack, as well, but that success can also be attributed to the story.
