I don't think the devs will mind this, well you know, you can't leave a game on a old engine, just because some users aren't able to upgrade.

Porting the game will not kill the original.

Valve will continue to support the original cs long after the Source Engine version has been released. Not only will there be thousands of player who wont upgrade, many will prefer the original and not be bothered by its inferior engine.

that's like saying evolution is a downside because you can't use it HL1 on your commodore.

What would be AMAZING is seeing dozens of real-looking skulks (antlion type detail) just swarming at you... Shoot back with some friends, watch some ripped apart with their teeth that actually... bite, get that shotgun out and blast them a few feet back, and changing pants whenever a fade comes by
Not to mention a hive that could look better than an orange ball attached to the ceiling

That sure is worth upgrading your computer isn't it

There is still an active quake1 and doom1 fanbase.

If you consider computer gaming a hobby then you should seriously invest some cash into it. If you were an airplane modeler you wouldn't be using legos to build your WWII replicas, would you? The same holds true for computer gaming, you wouldn't be using a system that can just barely run HL to play HL2 or Doom 3.

Bottom line, if you consider computer gaming as something you will be doing a lot of then invest some cash into it. If you just play once in a while to kill some time then don't worry about it, there's always snood and Popcap.

So true, and very well said. Gaming is defnitely a growing industry, and I have to say that alot of it will shape the future of where computers go to. Every day, PC manufacturers come out with "new" components that make everything more and more powerful. Soon enough, it will be the gaming industry that dictates where more power is needed, and when it is needed.

Damn I can't wait for that day

You've gotta remember that not everyone has the money to just "Upgrade" or buy new gaming machines.

Hell I don't even live in a house!

NS on HL2 = Not bhopping, so if the devteam doesnt make some radical gamechanges, the balance will be borked.

Besides there are nothing that says that NS will be ported to HL2. Sure it might be easier if the SDKs are alike. I myself wouldn't be suprised if NS (if ported) chose some other engine. There are several engines that can more than enough match up to Source.

I'm quitting NS and all HL mods once HL2 comes out :O

CWAG: until you're sated with HL2. Which will take a while what with the physics and AI and stuff you could do with impulse 101 and notarget... mwahaha...
And by that time there might be HL2 mods out. Hmm. Maybe you're right.

I would say that if ported the devs would choose source. I know little about game engines but ive got the feeling that source allows alot more ways for the player to interact with their environment. I doubt they would go for the best graphics, just something they can do really radical stuff with.

Not net-code wise, you know, there is a big reason HL is as big as it is, other than the fact that it's easy to mod for the engine: the netcode.

Im not convinced BH correctly balances anything. Its a system that assumes players will pick up and use bunnyhopping as easily as any other technique. Clearly this isnt happening.

Far more players can aim and dodge well as a marine than those who can bunnyhop to a equal standard.

I might need to up my box for HL2, but how long will it be until I see the game actually in my hands? As for crazy-hyper-realism, I hate to tell you guys this, but one of the reasons I play CS, NS, and don't touch my copy of Halo is because I like the Halflife engine better than just about any other engine I've played on. It's so crisp and precise, I know exactly where my bullets will go when I point in a direction. Unless they make CS2 super-duper cool, I'll still be going back to play CS and CS:CZ.

And yes. If videogames are your one main hobby like they are for some of us, you end up spending money on it.

Popcap Games rocks the house for cost-efficient time killing, almost too well if you ask me. Popcap's business model works about the same as a crack dealer's. If you just download the demos, when the demos run out, you'll be tossing and turning and spazzing out until you buy the real deal EVERY TIME.

Damn, why did this one slip?

There's already a topic discussing the possibility, the possible advantages, and also the possible disadvantages of a HL2 port. Seeing that there has been no kind of official announcement regarding such a port, I'd call that sufficient.
