Unimaginably Fast Bittorrent

Hard to belive at least.
I was about to download the latest Naruto from scarywater, when I noticed the total speed of the transfer. With the prefix peta, I think it's the fastest speed I've ever heard of.
Granted, with that amount of peers, it may be no wonder, but I still find it amazing.

Here's a picture of the line..

(columns: Name, Filesize, Ul, Dl, xfer, dls, time, total speed)

    Aren't torrent download speeds affected
by the whole "Seeds" and "Leechers" ratio?

The best i've seen my Bit-Torrent client hit is
110 KiB/s - but that only lasted for 2 minutes tops,
and then I was back to the usual 40-70 rate.

I've downloaded at a megabyte per second over bit torrent.

My record is around 200 kb/s ~tounge.gif~ but it's affected by seeds/leechers and your upload speed (put settings at unlimited)

I don't think it's very dependant on the ratio, but if there are few leechers (if the all the leechers combined don't have a complete copy), the seeders determine the the speed. But unless that is the case, it's dependant mostly on the amount of peers (both seeders and leechers) and luck. I completed the episode at 283 k/s, but I've seen speeds over 400, which is about max for my connection..

But that generally happens when I download files with a lot of peers (100+), and when the torrent is a few hours old (so the original seed has been able to distribute a fair amount of copies).

I know this is a newbie question, but is BitTorrent like Imesh and the other file sharing programs?

I have noticed that when I do use Imesh I tend to get well over 400k/sec so.. I suppose it depends on how many people have the file AND are sharing it?

I'm not sure how Imeash works (never used it), but this explains how BT works.

My torrent's average DL speed is between 110 and 210 on constant. I think it has something to do with my GUI blocking the majoity of uploads until my download is nearly complete. I ussualy leave it running long after I finish because my upload is nearly non existant and my file is already finished.

    1000+ petabytes/second? OH-EM-GEE, that's insane.

    argh, that's like 2000 OC-3's in bandwidth D:

    *edit* make that 2,000,000 OC-3's.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. That HAS to be some kind of error. It wouldn't be possible to fit that much through a normal person's pipe under any circumstances whatsoever.

well, it's the sum total of all bandwidth on that torrent, but still...

the torrent has 8000 leechers, which means the average person has to be pulling around 141 TERABYTES/sec.

    impossible.

it is a TORRENT, after all:

    tor·rent ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tôrnt, tr-)
    n.
    - A turbulent, swift-flowing stream.
    - A heavy downpour; a deluge.
    - A heavy, uncontrolled outpouring: a torrent of insults; torrents of mail

[edit - aptly named, indeed. o.0]

There's no concievable way you're downloading 1200 petabytes a second on a home connection. It's like trying to fit the ocean in your drainpipe.

I'm using dc++ most of the time with around 2mb/sec tounge.gif
Can anyone recommend the best torrent client?

I tried the original bittorrent but it's just... crap.

The origional client and all its clones (shadows, experimental etc) I never liked, it's just to messy when working with multiple torrents, I use Azureus

At least it keeps things clean.

    Where can i DL this?

My other bt dl clients have worked until 1 day when they DL in about a hour or less
then just freezes and it aint responding so i have to shut it off.
I got the simplest bt client and it's kinda crap. I used ABC before and shadows experimental. Any 1 knows what the problem could be? sad.gif

Any chance you remember getting a few thousand OC-192's?
As I see that your a home user, this is impossible.

I have had speeds of 13 Megs per second on a torrent, back when I flashed the firmware to my cable modem.
"Nice sig image Xodlike, a pity it's oversize. Shrink it down a bit and it'll be fine." Im getting complimented :)
